Reid: No ObamaCare 'exemption' for lawmakers, staff By Sam Baker - 04/25/13 01:06 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) quickly shot down speculation about a possible "exemption" for lawmakers and staff from the central part of ObamaCare.

Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson said Reid has never considered exempting members and staff from the law's insurance exchanges, and will not consider it in the future.

"There are not now, have never been, nor will there ever be any discussions about exempting members of Congress or Congressional staff from Affordable Care Act provisions that apply to any employees of any other public or private employer offering health care," Jentelson said.

Some lawmakers have been discussing a change in the way the healthcare law treats lawmakers and their staffers.

The law requires them to buy insurance through the newly created insurance exchanges, rather than using the system for federal employees. But there is a question as to whether the government, as an employer, can still help cover part of the healthcare costs for lawmakers and staff.

Reid's office said "no legislative fix is necessary" to resolve the issue.

The Nomenklatura will still have their special clinics. They aren’t fooling anyone but the foolish.

translation: We’re just going to attach it as a rider to a bill renaming about a dozen post offices and slip it through on voice-vote at 6PM on a Friday going into a three-day holiday weekend.

Probably because it was already decided beforehand (that they would be exempt).

“The Nomenklatura will still have their special clinics. They aren’t fooling anyone but the foolish.”

I witnessed two levels of “free” medical care in Mexico. There were the hospitals for the peasants. In the Baja when it hits 120 degrees, the hospitals send gurneys out on the hour to collect the dead. There’s no room to wait inside. The other hospitals look like the nicest ones here. They’re for the elite. But even their medicine is circa 1950. What would be an in/out office procedure here with 100% recovery could take weeks in bed and years to recover from there.

I’m certain there’s a third level of private care for those who can afford it.

No, because their “Cadillac” plans are approved by the 2700 page bill. Paid for by the taxpayers, no deductible, no contributions. Ours however will go up 100% because we have to pay for all the addition Medicare eligible “poor” since they have no money for a policy. Add on a few million “new” citizens who would qualify under the Immigrant Reform Bullshit being discussed. Screwed frontwards and backwards. Not even a cigarette.

Not to worry they'll just stick it in a multi-thousand page appropriations bill just before a recess late on a Friday night. Like they always do when they line their pockets at the expense of the taxpayer.

There should be an amendment to the Constitution that prohibits Congress, the President or any executive agencies from being exempt to any law passed by Congress. Let them put up with the crap they make just like the rest of us. Don't think for a minute that any government official will be standing in long lines at the Obamacare clinic waiting for their 10 minute visit with a nurse practitioner. They will continue to their Cadillac care at facilities we can't access. Look at Canada..one of their MPs a big proponent of their socialized medicine system went to California for her cancer treatment...ditto the Premier of Newfoundland went to Florida for his heart surgery All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.

Congress critters and senators aged 65 and up are on Medicare.
And that age bracket probably includes half the total population.
