BEIJING (AP) -- China's President Xi Jinping and France's President Francois Hollande pledged to push for a world free of domination by any superpower Thursday as the French leader visited the Chinese capital on a mission to boost trade amid his country's worsening economic woes.

Both leaders stressed their desire for a "multipolar" world that would dilute Washington's influence - though they did not mention the U.S. in their comments.

"China and France are both great countries with a strong sense of independence," Xi said at a news conference, adding that the two countries would "actively promote a multipolar world and the democratization of international relations."

Xi and Hollande, who is traveling with a delegation representing scores of French businesses, spoke to reporters after meeting at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.

"China and France both want a multipolar world. We want there to be a balance. We refuse a world of powers, and of superpowers," Hollande said. "When China and France agree on a position, we can drive the world."......

Last time France pushed for a multipolar world was because we had a ‘buffoon cowboy’ in the WH.

What is their excuse this time, we have a messiah they wanted before?

All that posturing aside, here is the meat of the deal.

Officials from the two countries signed an agreement for China to buy 60 planes from France-based Airbus. In addition, French nuclear giant Areva signed an agreement with China National Nuclear Corp. to build a used fuel treatment and recycling facility in the country.

Gosh, I would have called the world of 1870 and 1913 multi-polar. That didn’t work too well, did it?

Right...and there was an ethnic minority problem in Hungary where the Arch Duke got himself shot.

Was the shooter a Muslim? I don’t remember.

Seems a bit more complicated than today’s politics.

France has never been in favor of a unipolar world unless THEY could run it.

Took the words out of my mouth. No dominating superpower, unless it’s then.

France was 100% onboard with the EU until it became obvious Germans would run it. Then, not so much.

It worked out fine for the United States as long as we followed George Washington's wise advice to avoid foreign turmoils. I am all for a multipolar world if it allows some other nations to do the bulk of the national power draining heavy lifting to maintain the balance of power in their own regions.

Actually thanks to our public education system we already live in a multipolar world.

Ask any of those kids out there. There’s the North Pole. And the South Pole. And the East Pole. And the West Pole.

“I am all for a multipolar world if it allows some other nations to do the bulk of the national power draining heavy lifting to maintain the balance of power in their own regions. “

Japan, Taiwan, India and South Korea and, possibly, Israel, probably need to form a nuclear self-protection group. I certainly don’t want the US to be the only power to counter China. Periodically, we apparently will be run by idiots who hate the United States and denigrate our allies in favor of our enemies. This will probably go on for the next 100 years or until something happens here to end it.

What the heck would a ChiCom know about the "democratization" of anything?

The French can’t get over the fact that is has been all downhill for them since Louis XIV, who died in 1715. The Chinese are just totalitarian, unscrupulous, thieving bastards with vision of world domination. We have been warned.
