O.C. offers settlement to slain Marine's family (Remember this?)

Orange County supervisors have unanimously approved a proposed settlement in a federal wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Manuel Loggins Jr., an unarmed Marine sergeant who was shot to death by a sheriff’s deputy in a darkend high school parking lot.

The suit, which also names the county and the Sheriff's Department, said that Loggins didn't pose a threat to Sandberg in the early morning incident in 2012.

Loggins, described by friends as a disciplined and religious career Marine, had recently begun taking his family on prayer walks at the field. His two daughters were in the SUV at the time of the shooting.

In September, the Orange County district attorney's office said that Sandberg acted reasonably given the circumstances of the incident and cleared the deputy of wrongdoing.

It is unclear whether the Loggins family will accept the proposed settlement.

Ya know what it is?

These states, counties, cities etc, use tax payers money, so even though they shot this unarmed Marine to death...just give the family some tax money...Maybe they'll go away...

Has a Grand Jury taken a look at this case, because a murder indictment might be in order.

Cops never have to answer for their murders.

I don't believe so...After the event and ensuing outrage, the story basically went into media black...Before that, it was reported the deputy shot him to death becasue the deputy feared for the Marines kids, who were in the back seat.

The Marine was unarmed.

The county deputy and incident was investigated by those within the county...

The deputy implied he would have used a taser to get him to stop from driving off with his kids, but the deputy said he didn't happen to have one available, so he shot the unarmed Marine to death.

I remember the good old days when cops were expected to take down a suspect with a baton or nightstick. Now they just draw and shoot. Those were his kids, what made the cop think that their father was a danger to them?

I remember the good old days when cops were expected to take down a suspect with a baton or nightstick.

Those 'good ole days' were before Rodney King...after the riots, LAPD, and subsequently many other PDs, took batons away from officers...leaving their firearm as the only weapon available in such situations. This result was entirely predictable.

The donut hound would probably have to first spend a month in the Fat Farm (conditioning) to make it through one day of Motivation.

The peasants should be grateful that the Knights of the Realm are offering them money extracted from their fellow peasants.

With all the “police shoot marine/soldier” stories, one must wonder if some departments are acting on “unofficial” mandates to target military / retired military servicemen and women.

Only 3 people know the real story, a cop and two kids. I’d like to hear what the daughters had/have to say. They are probably old enough to talk about what happened since the media doesn’t even want to mention their ages.

Hopefully, they would still tell the truth, despite this being done to them:

Marine’s daughters held 13 hours after he was shot, attorney says

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2856163/posts

“The girls were held at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and were not allowed to see their mother until 6 p.m. that day,

“They probably kept asking them over and over and over what was going on till they got the answer they wanted.” “

What other money do cops or politicians have other than pilfered tax dollars. Now, if cop settlements came out of the cop pension funds, the unions would be freaking out. No worries, just use tax dollars then whine when “budget cuts” hit.
