A marine biologist pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally feeding killer whales in a Monterey Bay marine sanctuary.
Nancy Black, 50, of Monterey admitted in federal court in San Jose to using pieces of gray whale blubber to lure orca whales near her boat in 2004 and 2005.
In 2004, a pod of killer whales killed a gray whale in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and chunks of the gray whale's blubber began floating on the surface of the water.
Black and her crew hauled the blubber onboard the Black Dog research boat, tied a rope to it so they could hold the fat close to the vessel, and recorded underwater video of the whales eating, prosecutors said.

Throw the book at the scientist, don’t you know she could cause irreparable damage to that whale and make him have to seek therapy! I say 25 years minimum. Now those poor, poor boys that blew people’s legs off and killed several people in Boston... You know they were just misguided souls that were acting out in anger against the U.S. invading their homelands and that they acted alone. Why Obama said anyone could have looked up how to make a bomb on the Internet and that’s what they did....oh I wish he could run for the next election....

Back in the 1960s I used to feed chipmunks so that I could film them up close with my 8mm silent film camera. I had no idea I was doing anything wrong.
Teaching orcas to associate boats with food isn’t safe; there’s good reason to make it illegal (although a fine would probably be better than a jail sentence).
I say we say we’re going to have a 10,000,000 man conservative, Christian, Tea Party march where we all meet at the WH which you know will draw millions of liberal and Muslim protestors and probably tons of terrorists who can’t wait to blow us up BUT then we don’t show so they can end up all just blowing themselves to hell. Sure enough some fed gestapo environmental agency came around ‘investigating’ an allegation of ‘changing the environment’ and looking to give someone a $10,000 fine.
