Grant was the best strategic general of the war, according to R.E. Lee. I see Sherman as a close second, late in the war. I don’t see any dispute on that.
Tactical generals, I see Sheridan, Longstreet as being near peers, and one could also make a case for Jackson based on two campaigns. Sheridan was luckier. Longstreet was wounded at key moments.
Worst generals: Butler, Burnside, and Hood.
Jackson was a supreme general. Almost undefeatable. If he had survived the war, he and Custer would have ruled the West.
US Grant was simply the best American General. The political ability of Eisenhower with the daring of Patton and the command of Bradley.
Importantly, they did a poor job of covering up, as they just lined through the word soldier and substituted something else.
The other big giveaway is that a lot of war memorials had very similar names but a simple indicator that one of them was black.
He would have fought for his country.
I know you know that Washington was a land owning Virginian that would have fought for the Confederacy. I know you know it, you know I know you know it. Give it up. This is laughable, your position is delusional.
You appear to be an expert on delusional so I'll leave you to it.
Except for the no food, no clean water, no sanitation, and no shelter part. The South was responsible for that.
He wasn't available because he was dead. John Winder was in charge of confederate prisons and he died of a heart attack in February 1865,
there was that time in the 7 days battles when Jackson’s corps was slow.
Jackson was never given any opportunity for anything but tacticsl matters, so at higher levels, he was untested.
One should also note that Grant was granting easy parole terms to confederates, until the confederates stopped honoring the rules of war for US soldiers. After that, noone could be exchanged.
When you consider what happened to confederate prisoners in Chicago, you have to off set that with the treatment of US colored soldiers, or white soldiers who fought with the colored soldiers, by the south.
