Bloomberg Says Interpretation of Constitution Will ‘Have to Change’ After Boston Bombing

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday the country’s interpretation of the Constitution will “have to change” to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks.

“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Mr. Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown. “But we live in a complex word where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”

Mr. Bloomberg, who has come under fire for the N.Y.P.D.’s monitoring of Muslim communities and other aggressive tactics, said the rest of the country needs to learn from the attacks.

“Look, we live in a very dangerous world. We know there are people who want to take away our freedoms. New Yorkers probably know that as much if not more than anybody else after the terrible tragedy of 9/11,” he said.

“We have to understand that in the world going forward, we’re going to have more cameras and that kind of stuff. That’s good in some sense, but it’s different from what we are used to,” he said.

The mayor pointed to the gun debate and noted the courts have allowed for increasingly stringent regulations in response to ever-more powerful weapons.

“Clearly the Supreme Court has recognized that you have to have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and what it applies to and reasonable gun laws … Here we’re going to to have to live with reasonable levels of security,” he said, pointing to the use of magnetometers to catch weapons in city schools.

Someone should tell Hizzoner that you can’t protect innocent people by disarming innocent people.

Where is our Patrick Henry?

I've been wondering/asking the same thing.

Is (just about) everyone in DC owned?

Intentionally flood the country with millions who enter illegally from God knows where, flood the country with thousands from Muslims countries, then tell the American population there will be crackdowns on privacy and freedoms...

Even Stevie Wonder could see this coming.

Bloomberg is a damn Hitler wannabe. We need protection more from our government and what they want to become, than from terrorists. We can survive acts of terror from foreignors that affect a few within our vast population. We cannot survive a terror campaign from our “leaders” that enslave the entirety of or vast population. We have the Constitution because we were fleeing tyranny. Bloomberg seeks to remove that barrier that protects us from the likes of him.

I hope the interpretation of our Constitution will change. We have gone way too far along the “Living Constitution” route, and we need to return to “Original Intent”. Freedom of the Press includes the Internet, and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms includes semi-automatic firearms and silencers. However, if he wants to “interpret” away any more of our God-given rights as outlined under original intent, he’s going to need a new constitutional amendment - and he’s going to need to confiscate firearms first to push that through and to enforce it.

We could modify the first amendment and make islam illegal. Somehow I don’t think that’s what he means.

Free rides for eight years for politicians willing to campaign and deliver on constitutional freedoms, AKA civil rights. And yeah, go ahead. Make promises about jobs, welfare, whatever, but deliver those repeals of gun control laws for at least an extra term each.

What "ever- more powerful weapons"? A so called modern "assault rifle" can't hold a candle compared to an 1870s 45-70 in terms of sheer power.

We are under attack Micky - from would-be tyrants just like you.

You think you can stand with the fathers of our Country and determine how best to protect us, our rights, and our freedoms? Bloomberg, you're an arrogant, ignorant, a**. You're not fit to polish the buckles on their shoes.

A new "interpretation" of the Constitution is not going to happen. That is non-negotiable you fascist {expletive}.

Dear Mr. Bloomberg,

“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Mr. Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown. “But . . .

No sir, there are no if, ands or buts<

Our constitution was written to protect us from evil people such as yourself!

Most of us can defend ourselves from the muzzies. At least i know what they look like and what their intentions are. You on the other hand , you are an evil of a different kind. Of course you being less than honest is a start of your many evils.

Indeed, the Constitution needs to be amended to allow We the People to establish Pressure Cooker Free Zones. We need tighter Pressure Cooker controls.

We need to prohibit pressure cooker sales at pressure cooker shows without better background checks. 90% of Americans agree with that!

We need to move right now to only allow pressure cookers with less capacity to be sold at all!

Our founding fathers didn't even use pressure cookers. Heck's bells, was the Franklin stove even invented in those days? If it was I'm sure Ben never envisioned pressure cookers.

Ask Bloomers where in the Bill of Rights does it even say: A well regulated Kitchen, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Pressure Cookers, shall not be infringed?

If it isn't there, we ought to be able to prohibit the manufacture and sale of them...period! Get Feinstein on it...now!

It would help if Bloomers would say something once in his lIfe to prove he's brighter than Biden.

Actually, the Constitution is/was working just fine. My problem is that the Police closed down the whole Boston city because of a possible terrorist running loose amongst us.

That was against the Constitution. If you look at the outcome, the savior was the Boston folks supplying the police with information about the terrorist so just how great was it to shut the city down - while defying the Constitution itself!

And all the while, this rich buzzard can stand there, with suited goons with folded arms, and packing heat for pay, but WE cannot?

I don’t think so!

This buzzard needs to be unelected, quick!
