Boston and the Drone Debate
National Review Online ^ | 4/22/13 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 04/22/2013 1:44:58 PM PDT by BlatherNaut

So, will Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Dianne Feinstein go to bat for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev?

In December, with many conservatives cheering him on, Paul (R., Ky.) railed against the “abomination” of designating American citizens as enemy combatants — i.e., detaining them indefinitely outside the civilian criminal-justice system. Mike Lee (Utah), a conservative favorite, was his principal Republican partner in the Senate effort.

By the way, why would a helicopter using thermal equipment fly in forward motion when eying a bomber hiding in a boat? Because that was DRONE footage, not a helicopter that’s why!

We heard on the Boston news last Friday afternoon that the White House Situation Room had been activated.

We mulishly continue to avoid coming to grips with the
straight-line nexus between Islamic-supremacist ideology,
which is firmly rooted in literal, authoritative Muslim
scripture, and the threat to the United States. As long as
willful blindness remains entrenched, the nation will remain
vulnerable no matter which detention and prosecution
protocols are used.

An so concludes one of our most important chroniclers of
Jihad, Andrew McCarthy. I recommend purchasing "The Grand
Jihad: How Islam and the Left Sabotage America".

Yes, we should give up our rights in order to have law and order.

Basic law enforcement in the form of the FBI failing to do their job led to this chain of events that was preventable.

We should blame Paul for pushing the stupid Immigration Decree, not for upholding the Constitution.

The helo might not have the power to hover out of ground effect (HOGE). Or doesn’t want to be a target.

I am missing the point of the article- is he critical of Rand Paul for his insistent that US citizens always treated under Miranda or is he critical of the FBI who missed every warning sign and made him a citizen.

FBI - "Guiding Principles".

"...This distinction includes recognition of the corresponding principle that mere association with organizations that demonstrate both legitimate (advocacy) and illicit (violent extremism) objectives should not automatically result in a determination that the associated individual is acting in furtherance of the organization's illicit objective(s)."

USA citizens who are enemy combatants should be tried in court for treason and executed.

Agree. Jihadists (citizen or not) are enemy combatants.

"The important security issue isn't convicting Dzhokhar but finding out what he knows that might prevent a future attack or break up a terror network. This is where naming him an enemy combatant would be useful. Such a designation allows for extensive, long-term interrogation without a lawyer. Especially because President Obama has barred enhanced-interrogation techniques, such long-term psychological pressure can be crucial to learning if the brothers worked with anyone else, if they received terrorist training, and more.

Perhaps I missed it, but he failed to make a distinction between actual born American citizens, presumed citizens born of legal residents, or fraudulently-naturalized foreign terrorists.

If the omission was deliberate, I have no respect for Paul.

Their actions speak for them.

It is mind-boggling to realize that not one in 1000 random resident of the US is aware that islam does not recognize ANY civil authority anywhere, which is at variance with the abominally unholy trinity that is islam: religion, secular law and minutely controlled social behavior.

Muslims seeking citizenship are not required to renounce Islamic civil authority as a condition of American citizenship. Nor are they made aware that failure to do so invalidates said American citizenship.

WHY IS THAT SO?
