Irony: Murder and Lockdown in Gated Subdivision: [Safer outside of gated subdivision than inside]

Last night, it was actually safer outside of a Brentwood, TN gated subdivision than it was inside of it.

"BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - A man wanted in connection with his wife's shooting death was taken into custody early Monday morning after an overnight manhunt.

Brentwood Police said 41-year-old Randolph Maidens walked out of the woods shortly after daylight, and was walking toward his home when he was taken into custody without incident. Police believe he had been laying low in the area, but were unsure where he had been.

Maidens was to be questioned later Monday morning, and charges could be forthcoming, according to police.

Brentwood Police had locked down the Governors Club Community overnight Sunday after his wife, Dr. Rachael Maidens, was found shot to death in the couple's home on Governors Way. They believed Maidens had not left the neighborhood.

Police went door-to-door during their search and would not allow anyone in or out.

"This is very scary. We have a 15 year old daughter who's home alone. We told her to turn off all the lights, to stay out of vision, except for police, if they came to the house in uniform she could answer the door," said Cynthia Rosenblum Sunday night.

Rosenblum said she lives next to the crime scene, but did not know the couple well. However, she described a strange run-in with a man she said was Randolph Maidens, when he was found lurking in the woods in a ski-mask, and he claimed to be lost."

this is the same subdivision that Vince Young lived in while a member of the Tennessee Titans.

Pardon my ignorance, but this article mentions something about the police searching the houses. The same thing happened in Watertown on Friday. When the police do this, what would happen if you refused to let them in your house? You have been home all day, and you know no one else is in your home, so you tell the police they can’t come in without a search warrant. I am curious what other Freepers think about this.

Terrifying. It looks like they're holding a random family that was just sitting in their home at gunpoint. The “new normal” I suppose...

apparently we live in a police state

A similar event happened in our neighborhood two years ago when a petty felon got out on bail and promptly murdered a neighbor that turned him in. This happened in the next town over, but the murderer had known family and friends in our town and had been reported seen in the area.

I did not allow the officer into my home. I just informed him that I was there with two children and the large growling dog who I was restraining that we were fine. He was fine with that.

Then I gave him the keys to the garage and travel trailer and asked him to check them and relock them and return the keys. Which he did. He didn’t ask for the keys, I just wanted a nice big man with a gun to check as travel trailer doors are easy to jimmy open.

I live in a rural farmtown so crime is rare (except for metal theft from irrigation systems, but that’s out in the fields, not in town) and murder is really super rare.

This officer was by himself. The attitude might have been different if it was an entire swat squad.
