But what are you going to do with a young child brought here 10 or 20 years ago?

I'm not targeting you in particular with this reply, it is a response to this particular sentence/statement that we are beginning to hear from all "sides" on this debate. My question is this, what about someone that robs a bank (or some other grand larceny) and uses the proceeds to build a house that his family has lived in for 10 - 20 years? Do we say, geez, his family lives there now, we can't take it away?

Of course we don't; the Law is the Law. Our civil society is destroyed every time we choose to not enforce the Law when there are emotional overtones that pull heart strings.

Taking a hard line that says illegal activity is illegal, no matter what emotional issues surround it, is the only way to stop this endless chain. (But I don't expect that sentiment will hold sway any longer, we seemed to have passed that point long ago.)

I’m a conservative in the Robert Taft mode.

I’m just trying to point out that Reagan who was a great president - from my research (since I was too young then) - campaigned on and signed an amnesty and nobody considers him a traitor.

Because1: He admitted his error and 2: there was more to it than there is today.

Reagan’s Amnesty was supposed to be it. Then the Dems turned 180 on their end and nullified all Reagan’s checks and balances...just as they will do here. History guides us.

You need to buy The Reagan Diaries and study it before going further. If you are being honest, I admire your passion. But you NEED to learn your history before jumping headlong into this subject with only a modern miseducation to guide you.

I’ve not read his diaries. I’ll have to look into it more.

I know you think i’m young and naive but i’m well aware of the entitlement problem and I’m against nearly all welfare and support transitional arrangements.

"If we don't start winning Hispanic votes, we will never see the Presidency.

Being hard nosed is going to get Hillary elected."

Hard-nosed....is that another term for purist?

Amnesty-pushers like Paul and Rubio will ensure we'll never see the Presidency again. Once they have their way and tens of millions of illegals and their extended families line up to vote Democratic, it's all over. The nation will be one big California.

" But what are you going to do with a young child brought here 10 or 20 years ago? "

Send them back to Mexico with their parents. You're under the mistaken impression that it's OUR fault they're here in the first place, and our responsibility.

Blame the parents. THEY brought them here---they can take them back.

agree, the bill will happen, it’s what we get out of it and reward the right people.

Saying no to all of this is not going to work.
There are ways to get Hispanics and get the right ones.

Paul wants amnesty, Rubio wants amnesty, it’s all we see on here lately because both sides care more about attacking and spreading lies than going after Clinton and Libya and then those people will wonder why we lost again and it ;s because of them fools

" I don't like amnesty for illegals, but as an issue it's right up there with the national 55 mph speed limit or spotted owls in importance, or lack thereof, to me."

Yeah, thirty million new welfare recipients/Democrat voters are pretty inconsequential, really. /s

“It’s coming whether we like it or not...”

I guaran-damn-tee you we’ll be hearing the same things from people like you when the Repubs get around to the sodomite marriage issue.

Absolutely not!

I’m going to fight this and that the best I can.

I just know something is going to pass though on immigration.

The House is where we need to look to. I’ll have some details soon.

Honestly, I dont take offense from the illegal immigrants themselves. God knows if i lived in Mexico, I’d be sneaking my butt across the border too. I think we ought to be focusing on targeting employees who hire them but this idea that the feds will ever round up all the illegals here in this country is one big pipe dream, a conservative unicorn if you will.

Had a quick scan and there’s no direct quote from Meese or Reagan

That’s very misleading from VDare “Meese says...” and no quote just an assertion from the writer.

That’s hardly a good source.

"He still signed amnesty and was a conservative and probably one of the 20th century greatest presidents"

That argument is not a very good one. First Reagan said it was a huge mistake. Instead of the 1 million estimated we got 3 million and illegals flooded the country hoping to get the amnesty. Also the 86 deals was suppose to be a "One time and one time only" amnesty. But the promised enforcement never happened so now we have 25 or 30 million illegals here. The 86 deal is why we have the problem that we have today.

At least Paul puts border enforcement at the front end, Rubio and the gang of 8 put legalization on the front end and promise enforcement later. Been there done that and I ain't falling for that again. Once the border is secure and the current laws are being enforced then maybe we can talk about what to do with the illegals that have "put down roots". As I see it that is the jest of Paul plan.

Where did Reagan say it was a huge mistake? I want a quote.

That’s a pretty big statement to make to say he regreted it. He campaigned on it and it was a major policy of his in the 84 election. I was far too young then but that’s what my research suggests.

For Reagan to campaign on and sign amnesty and then regret it is a big leap to make and if you’re making that assertion I need better evidence than an assertion from a conservative writer who might have an agenda.

Just to add i’ve not read the diaries but all the evidence is he was campaigning on amnesty in 84 and signed it. I was like 6 then so didn’t live through it.

But the older posters here who I respect might be able to tell us more.
