Two men are in federal custody as the FBI investigates a possible terror cell that may be linked to suspected Boston Marathon bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
The men, known only as Diaz and Azmat, were arrested Saturday, April 20, in New Bedford, Mass. While the suspects are being held on immigration violations, their arrest was made after police received new information regarding a possible 12-member terror cell operating in the area.
Investigators say the group’s main focus may have been training the brothers to build compact explosives like the bombs used in the marathon attack and those thrown at police officers Thursday night during a car chase.
As many as six makeshift bombs were tossed from a stolen SUV as police chased the Tsarnaev brothers between Cambridge and Watertown. One of the devices was a pressure-cooker bomb that exploded and became embedded in the body of squad car. Others were pipe bombs and homemade hand grenades. A pressure-cooker device was also used in the marathon bombings.
One published report called the bombs “highly sophisticated, not the kind of thing people learn from Google.”
Meantime, authorities are revisiting a 2012 FBI investigation of Tamerlan Tsarnaev that was sparked by a foreign government’s concern that the Chechen Muslim was engaging in jihadist activities.
While the bureau has confirmed the investigation, it found no evidence he was a threat. Agents are now investigating whether the sleeper cell was operating during that investigation.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed Thursday night during a gunfight with police in Cambridge. He was wearing a vest packed with explosives, police said. Dzhokhar, 19, was captured Friday. He surrendered after exchanging fire with officers from inside a boat parked in the yard of a Watertown resident.
As of Sunday morning, Tsarnaev remains hospitalized, suffering from a gunshot wound to the throat and unable to speak with authorities.
Diaz and Azmat are believed to be students at UMass Dartmouth, where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was also enrolled. New Bedford is minutes from Dartmouth.

From articles I read they started out the night in a Honda CRV. After they killed the MIT officer they carjacked the Mercedes SUV. Just my guess is they had the bombs, etc with them in the Honda and transferred it to the SUV. It’s speculation on my part as I haven’t seen anything written to confirm it.

Yup, this is what I was asking last night. Maybe they could have had a few grenades, or small pipe bombs in another back pack, but I thought the BPD said that the MUSLIM TERRORISTS threw another crock pot bomb at them. ...and who the hell is the guy that they allegedly carjacked, that they told they were the Marathon bombers, but did not kill? I want to hear that guys story. Has anyone heard any more about that part of this? Also, who was the 60-70 year old guy, who allegedly had a triggering device in his hand that they had lying on the ground in Watertown while their robot checked him out on Friday morning? Has anybody heard any more about that? ...also who was the guy that they had strip naked the night that MUSLIM TERRORIST #1 was run over by MUSLIM TERRORIST#2? Just some neighborhood guy who stumbled into the festivities? Maybe the Daily mail will update us on all of this, because you can be sure that the MUSLIM TERRORIST loving State Run Media won’t!!

What I’d like to know is why they went on this rampage in the first place rather than lying low and getting out of town.
Another Freeper (can’t remember where) came up with the idea that the royal Arab who was wounded in the explosion (visited by Mooch) was supposed to be the get-away guy, and the two mules were stranded.
They didn’t know what to do - no backup plan.
Even without a backup plan, to launch out into a convenience store robbery, LEO murder, and thus make yourself a target seems odd. Although, maybe that was part of the plan: to have themselves taken out by violence (suicide). They had to have more than one connection otherwise. This is part of the story I have yet to see brought to light. I certainly am NOT holding my breath when it comes to US Media reporting the facts. I believe there are competent experts who are looking into every angle of this.
Why the hell would SheBangs visit a suspect in the hospital, anyway? Did she visit the other victims?

DeLuca also offered new details on Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s movements in the days after the bombings, saying the last day he was alive that “he was home” when his wife left for work. When asked whether anything seemed amiss to his wife following the bombings, DeLuca responded, “Not as far as I know.” He said she learned her husband was a suspect in the bombings by seeing it on TV. He would not elaborate.
DeLuca said his client did not suspect her husband of anything, and that there was no reason for her to have suspected him. He said she had been working 70 to 80 hours, seven days a week as a home health care aide. While she was at work, her husband cared for their toddler daughter, DeLuca said.
“When this allegedly was going on, she was working, and had been working all week to support her family,” he told the AP.
