Chechen Group Behind Beslan Claims Attack Kadyrov Vows To Wipe Out Islamic Militants

June 29, 2009

MOSCOW (Reuters) -- The Chechen rebel group behind the 2004 Beslan school massacre has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing last week that badly wounded the president of Russia's southern region of Ingushetia.

"This operation was carried out by the rebel battalion Riyadus Salikhin," the group said in a statement posted on kafkazcenter.com, a website with ties to the Chechen separatist movement.

It said the June 22 attack on Kremlin-appointed Ingushetian President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov was ordered by Chechnya's most-wanted separatist leader, Doku Umarov.

Chechnya's pro-Kremlin leadership said on June 8 that Umarov had been severely wounded in a special operation that killed four of fighters. It has been unclear since then whether he is dead or alive.

Russia has stabilized Chechnya after two separatist wars since the mid-1990s, but nearby Ingushetia and Daghestan have replaced it as the main centers of violence on the country's volatile southern flank. The restive regions pose a challenge to Kremlin rule and provide a foothold for Islamist militants.

Describing the bomb attack, the Riyadus Salikhin group said: "At 8.30 in the morning, a car packed with explosives rammed into the armored Mercedes belonging to Yevkurov."

Yevkurov, 45, underwent surgery after the bombing, which killed one of his relatives, and is now in a stable condition. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has condemned the attack as a "terrorist act" and vowed a "direct and severe response."

Units of the Riyadus-Salikhin group, then run by Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, who died in 2006, carried out the 2004 Beslan school siege in southern Russia in which more than 320 people died. Most of the victims were children.

I hope the Kremlin exterminates the Chechens. I would mail them a contribution to help pay for the ammunition!

And Obama will claim that these bombers are just “freedom fighters” and we need to support them, just as Clinton supported the jihadis in Bosnia

Russia has been fighting the Militant/Islamic/Moslem issue for eons...Putin absolutely understands that threat..”to his country”.... calls them “bast*rds” and he's right. They cannot be reasoned with.

But make no mistake..Putin will use Islamic Nations to serve his purposes and trade for Russia..... Chechnya is a thorn in his side....

As I told you in the other post ...people will be more accepting to the 'struggle' of the Chechens (and Palestinians for that matter) when they give up terrorism, Wahhabi-esque Islam, and association with terrorist groups (in the case of the Chechens Al Qaeda). When that happens. Scratch that ...if that happens, then people will be far more likely to lend an ear to their 'struggle.' Until then please do not expect much sympathy. The Russians could raze down Grozny afresh, the Israelis could bulldoze a baker's dozen of Palestinian dwellings, and the US could shoot Hellfires from Predators are jihadi settlements in North Waziristan ...and no one will blink. Why? Because most people understand that those same Chechens/Hamas/AlQaeda (what's the difference anyways ....especially between the Chechen 'freedom fighters' and AlQaeda since they have been fighting together for years now) that are screaming 'help' would kill you in an instant.

it's a little more complicated than "wipe 'em out"

The Chechen culture is old -- they are probably descended from the Hurrites or other ancient middle-eastern people who were in northern Iraq during Sumerian times

They were also NOT Moslem until the 17th century -- primarily pagan/shamanist -- all indications are that they converted to Islam when Russia was moving into them -- perhaps as a way of solidarity? Whatever, it was a pity

The Russians did try to exterminate them repeatedly and the Soviets deported them en-masse

What is the solution? I don't know

But I do know that now Chechnya is calm, thanks to a strong man

And I do know that if they were Christian, the issue would not be as bad -- after all, Ossetians are a separate ethnicity (Irani people) who are Russian Orthodox, yet keep their culture and are close to Russia.

“And I do know that if they were Christian,”

And there is the rub. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but the vast majority of them support Jihad and are sympathetic to Jihadis, and the Koran and Islam represent a “terrorist” belief system.

As for the connection between Chechens and Hurrians and any recent conversion to Islam, this is really irrelevant. Chechens have been in the forefront of Jihadi activity in Afghanistan and not only launched horrific attacks against civilians in Russia, but also now here against us.

Your reference to relative peace in Chechnya due to the presence of a “strongman” illustrates ZULU’s Islamic Rule - the ONLY form of governance in an Islamic State is a dictatorship, an oppressive Islamic theocracy or anarchy. Its the Islamic mindset. There is no room for basic human rights,a republican or democratic concept, or justice as conceived in western culture.

Islam is totally incompatible with those ideas, many of which spring from a Judaeo-Christian political philosophy totally absent in Islam.

I believe in a containment or conversion philosophy with Islam. If they won’t convert, lock them up in their own countries until they change their thinking about Islam, or exterminate them if they attack civilians outside their sphere of control.

Islamists are very good at infiltrating and converting mass movements. Neither the Palestinian nor the Chechen independence movements were initially Islamist. The PLO was mostly secular and even had some Christians, but they (Fattah) are now marginalized by Hammas. Similarly, Chechens weren't especially pious Muslims until their civil war started in earnest.

Along the same lines, a lot of uprisings against dictators in the Middle East started out as secular and "democratic," only to be hijacked by better-organized and armed Islamist groups.

The lesson to be learned by the more sane and secular "freedom fighters" is not to make deals with Islamist devils if you want to avoid being tarred withe the same terrorist brush. Both Chechens and Palestinians have failed to do so.

Exactly! Couldn’t have said it better. Essentially, if you grill some good meat, and then you let the drunk uncle come and take a crap on those juicy succulent ribs, what you are left with is inedible and hazardous stuff to be disposed off as soon as possible. (Now you see why I said you said it much better than I could). In the same way, the Chechens may have had a point or two, but when they started killing innocents in the name of Islam they shelved themselves right next to Al Qaeda and shat-on barbeque ribs ....all destined to be disposed off in the most effective way possible.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has condemned the attack but blamed it on a 'lone wolf' bomber who had a personal resentment against Yevkurov. He also emphasized that Islam is a Religion of Peace and ordered the Russian military to protect Russian Muslim villages and mosques to prevent attacks by racist, violent, Christian Russians, who he claimed might use this isolated incident as an excuse to engage in a progrom against Muslims.

(Just kidding.)
