DeMint on Immigration: “Incomprehensible, Comprehensive Bills” Not the Solution
Heritage ^ | April 20, 2013 at 9:00 am | T. Elliot Gaiser

Posted on 04/20/2013 3:55:02 PM PDT by Red Steel

Both the process and the content of the current immigration bill violate America’s core principles and legacy of immigration, according to Heritage President Jim DeMint.

“This whole process is not really American, to take a few people and go behind closed doors and then come out and suddenly have it on the floor of the Senate for debate,” said DeMint on “The Mike Huckabee Show” earlier this week. (Listen here)

“Instead of incomprehensible, comprehensive bills that are thousands of pages, we need to take a step-by-step approach so people know what we’re doing, and with immigration, the obvious priority is to fix the system that’s broken,” he told Brad Jackson and Ben Domenech on the “Coffee and Markets” podcast.

“We don’t have a citizenship problem. We have an immigration system problem,” he said.

DeMint said the bill will impose massive costs on the Medicare, Social Security, and welfare systems. “There is a significant cost to taxpayers for those who come here illegally,” he said. “In other words, they take more than they pay into the system.

In addition, the bill will sap opportunity from those who have applied to come to the United States legally. “We’ve got 4 million people who want to come to America, have applied to come here, who can’t come here lawfully,” he said.

“Immigration is a very important part of our heritage, and we need to protect those things that immigrants from all over the world come to America for, and that’s freedom and opportunity,” said DeMint.

Secure the nation!! Secure the borders!! Tighten up immigration policy!! We should not allow in anyone from a nation harboring Islamic terrorists while they are at war on us!! And we do not need hordes of immigrants from any nation!! For crying out loud one quarter of our people are unemployed and fully half of our people are now living on some form of government subsistence!! And our government is all but bankrupt!! Can’t tax more, can’t borrow more, so they’re reduced to printing money to support their asinine spending habits. This must end!!

Vigorously enforce existing immigration laws on local, state and federal levels. They haven’t begun even that yet, but want more!

Single bills for single issues.

We need a "fix the border" bill.

Do that alone, then see what happens.

Maybe, just maybe, if we actually enforced the border, as required by the Constitution, and the existing immigration laws they've already passed, most of our problems would go away.

If they can't/won't enforce what they've already passed, why should we believe they'll do better with even more laws???

If States still appointed Senators, would gangs of eight huddle with labor and business in back rooms to make deals like this?

Restore vertical separation of powers and perhaps our republic. Repeal the 17th.

Duncan Hunter did it. Got the fence bill passed. The small amount that got built, worked. Then Bush refused to fund it, or enforce it, as did Obama.

Absolutely. I get the feeling the politicians are just looking to pass the grenade to the next generation. I think they would rather someone else do the necessary work to understand the problem and find a permanent solution.
That way they can continue with their never ending malfeasance.

IMMIGRATION REFORM IS THE GATEWAY TO TERRORISM The Big Lie is that the bulk of border-crossers are Mexican----BUT we know Mexico is the staging area for all of the Third World freeloaders---that includes global terrorists bent on destroying America. Terrorists from Mideast countries are entering the US from Mexico......their swarthiness gives them a pass to masquerade as Mexican illegals

The Mexican border has become the staging area for (1) global terrorists (swarthy Mideasterners who pass for Mexicans), (2) the criminal latino uderworld, (3) Third World lowlifes, (4) drug cartels, (5) impoverished latinos hoping to win the "border lottery" in the US and the like.

US politicans are looking the other way. The word is out---"come to Mexico to infiltrate the US. It's open season to conduct your dirty deeds."

====================================================

Mexican drug cartels swarming into the US (read below) already have financial arrangements with Hamas and Hezbollah, and will be empowered to expand those partnerships via The Schumer-Rubio amnesty bill. It’s a small step from blanketing America w/ marijuana and heroin to aiding and abetting Hezbollah operatives. To these hardened criminal, the profit motive rules, no matter the source.

REFERENCE---NY POST EXCERPT--- Mexican cartels dispatch agents deep inside US - spread into non-border states

CHICAGO (AP) — Mexican drug cartels whose operatives once rarely ventured beyond the US border are dispatching some of their most trusted agents to live and work deep inside the United States — an emboldened presence that experts believe is meant to tighten their grip on the world's most lucrative narcotics market and maximize profits. If left unchecked, authorities say, the cartels' move into the American interior could render the syndicates harder than ever to dislodge and pave the way for them to expand into other criminal enterprises such as prostitution, kidnapping-and-extortion rackets and money laundering.

Some cartels even have Mexican operatives fill out job applications before being dispatched to the US, Riley added.

In Mexico, the cartels are known for a staggering number of killings — more than 50,000, according to one tally. Beheadings are sometimes a signature. So far, cartels don't appear to be directly responsible for large numbers of slayings in the United States, though the Texas Department of Public Safety reported 22 killings and five kidnappings in Texas at the hands of Mexican cartels from 2010 through mid- 2011. Still, police worry that increased cartel activity could fuel heightened violence.--SNIP--

In Chicago, the police commander who oversees narcotics investigations, James O'Grady, said street-gang disputes over turf account for most of the city's uptick in murders last year, when slayings topped 500 for the first time since 2008.

Although the cartels aren't dictating the territorial wars, they are the source of drugs. Riley's assessment is stark: He argues that the cartels should be seen as an underlying cause of Chicago's disturbingly high murder rate. "They are the puppeteers," he said. "Maybe the shooter didn't know and maybe the victim didn't know that. But if you follow it down the line, the cartels are ultimately responsible."

This guy is doomed to failure. Way too much common sense.

Reagan pulled us back from the edge and began to undo the damage.

Then, the Bush family took office and immediately began undoing the Reagan revolution and all it stood for.

Bush then begot Clinton, who then begot Bush, who then begot obama.

I hate to see or admit this, as I voted four times in total for the elder and the younger, but I've come to believe that while our problems didn't begin with the Bush family, they were restarted by the Bush family.

One world order, here we come!

Hey,I've got an idea. Why doesn't Congress pass a 2700 page immigration “reform” bill and then, after it's passed,we can find out what's in it.That strategy has certainly worked well in the (recent) past.

East Germany certainly had an effective way to keep decedent Westerners out of their workers’ paradise. We should adopt a similar plan with one small difference.Unlike East Germany’s wall which, curiously, had machine guns pointed in such a way as to discourage decedent Westerners from *leaving* their country, our wall would have machine guns pointed in such a way as to prevent people from *entering*.

“Repeal the 17th.”

Bingo. Now we have representatives that serve two year terms that we have a slight chance of voting out if they stink up the place. And in the Senate we have representatives that serve six year terms with ever increasing probability of becoming permanent fixtures. If we can’t repeal the 17th, we have to put term limits on these career politicians. Twelve years sounds about right, then they have to return to the private sector to make a productive living like the rest of us.
