Letting their hostage go to call the cops seemed to me like they wanted to be chased. Suicide vests says to me they wanted to die rather than be caught, and take out as many as possible with them. The grenades, bomb threats during the chase, rocket in the basement, etc suggests that we’re talking about a bigger cell behind all this. And the dad’s language suggests the cell will respond once these 2 are both dead.
That’s just how it looks from here. I guess we’ll see.

I use similar types of radios at work. Had one guy key the mike on the toliet one day. Let’s just say he a bit embarassed.
Maybe not, if the boat was winterized.
Our radios had specific numbers assigned to them so if somebody’s mike was keyed, or radio alarm went off, you knew who it was, and where they were in the prison.
