The Issue is Not Chechnya, It’s Islamist Terrorism
Front Page Magazine ^ | April 19, 2013 | By Daniel Greenfield

Posted on 04/19/2013 10:25:06 AM PDT by drewh

Now that we know who the bombers are and one of them is dead, and that they are Chechen Muslims, the media has gone into “Palestinian” mode insisting that we need to talk about the conflict in Chechnya.

We can talk about Chechnya, but the issue there and everywhere else is Islamic nationalism or Islamism. The bombers could have been from Chechnya or Mali or Bosnia or Iraq or Egypt or Afghanistan or any Muslim country where Islamists are active. And that’s most Muslim countries, especially after the Arab Spring.

There is a conflict in Chechnya and Iraq and Pakistan and Afghanistan and Thailand and Nigeria and the Philippines and India and Israel and France and a hundred other countries.

Where there is a sizable Muslim majority or even sizable minority, there is conflict.

Any talk about pressuring Russia into “resolving” or “appeasing” Chechen Islamists (at least the ones not allied with Russia) is a silly waste of time.

Russia isn’t Israel. It’s not going to be intimidated into making deals with terrorists. And talking about the demands of Chechen Islamists is a waste of time. Their demands are the same as the demands of all Islamists.

Islamism is Transnational. You cannot solve it locally. The situation in Israel has proven that. Giving in to territorial demands always fails because a transnational movement wants more than a few miles here and there. They want a regional and then a global Caliphate.

America had nothing to do with the conflict in Chechnya. That didn’t stop Dzhokar Tsarneav and Tamerlan Tsarneav from carrying out the mass murder of Americans.

To understand Dzhokar Tsarneav and Tamerlan Tsarneav is to understand that Islam is transnational.

“World view” is listed as “Islam” and his “Personal priority” is “career and money”.

He has posted links to videos of fighters in the Syrian civil war and to Islamic web pages with titles like “Salamworld, my religion is Islam” and “There is no God but Allah, let that ring out in our hearts”.

It’s Allah Akbar all over again.

Interesting piece from the CFR's website to add to your list of references:

Chechen Terrorism

Are there links between Chechen groups and al-Qaeda?

Experts say there are several ties between the al-Qaeda network and Chechen groups. A Chechen warlord known as Khattab is said to have met with Osama bin Laden while both men were fighting the 1979-89 Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Alexander Vershbow, a U.S. ambassador to Russia, said shortly after September 11, 2001, "We have long recognized that Osama bin Laden and other international networks have been fueling the flames in Chechnya, including the involvement of foreign commanders like Khattab." Khattab was killed in April 2002.

Zacarias Moussaoui, who was convicted for his involvement in the September 11 attacks, was reported by the Wall Street Journal to be formerly "a recruiter for al-Qaeda-backed rebels in Chechnya." Chechen militants reportedly fought alongside al-Qaeda and Taliban forces against the U.S.-backed Northern Alliance in late 2001. The Taliban regime in Afghanistan was one of the only governments to recognize Chechen independence.

Russian authorities, including Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, have repeatedly stressed the involvement of international terrorists and Bin Laden associates in Chechnya--in part, experts say, to generate Western sympathy for Russia's military campaign against the Chechen rebels. Russia's former defense minister, Sergei Ivanov, claimed that a videotape of Khattab meeting with bin Laden had been found in Afghanistan, but Russia has not aired the tape publicly.

Thanks for the link. Where were you on the confirmation of Hagel? I could have used your help.

Al Zawahiri and Kalid Sheik Mohamed both had some ties to Chechny. Kalid tried to go there to establish an Al Qaeda base, but couldn’t get through due to the bad weather and rough terrain. Zawahiri also tried to establish Chechnya as the home of Al Qaeda, from where he planned to attack the USA.

http://74.6.116.71/search/srpcache?ei=UTF-8&p=Zawahiri+in+Chechnya&fr=aaplw&u=http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=Zawahiri+in+Chechnya&d=4917802936961062&mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&w=HKvQhupxGlW8W62Wo8DKCVw5uYqNpIQ0&icp=1&.intl=us&sig=67lG68hZXvcKcCa6CqSIUg

A fascinating piece by Andrew Higgins and Alan Cullison recently appeared in The Wall Street Journal [July 2] with the title: “How a Secret, Failed Trip to Chechnya Turned Key Plotter’s Focus to America and bin Laden.” The key plotter in this case was 9/11 mastermind and bin Laden’s Egyptian lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri. The article’s title suggests that Zawahiri’s failure to settle in Chechnya (due to his “detention” by the KGB/FSB in 1996-97) led him to Afghanistan and an alliance with bin Laden. But according to ranking U.S. terrorism expert, Yossef Bodansky, Egyptian Jihad leader Zawahiri was preparing a massive terrorist assault on America as early as 1993, years before he “disappeared” into Russia for six months.

We have a lot of Chechens, here in WA State. The head of the IT dept where my husband works bought his house from the bomber’s uncle. People were out there taking pictures of his house in Ferndale, WA, all day.

Oh, and when my son was in ninth grade in the public school a kid from the same region (we called them all Russians) told everyone that he had made three pipe bombs from directions that he got from the Anarchist Cookbook at the public library and he was going to use one of them to blow up our house because we lived in a gate guarded golf course community. He was going to use the other to blow up the school cafeteria and he was taking suggestions for the third.

I forgot to mention that Saddam Hussein was training Chechens in training camps in Iraq and also the Chechens were allied with Ghaddafi in Libya. We have no filter to keep these terrorists out of the country. We were taking anyone who was anti-Soviet union, as if the cold war was still a factor.

...every terrorist in Chechnya who wants to murder innocent Russians...

My generation grew up in an atmosphere where the phrase "innocent Russians" was meaningless. But we never heard much about the Mohammadens, just that they existed as another religion and created algebra.

We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland, and France, if we are to survive as a nation.

I know the feeling. My involvement in the Cold War lasted quite a few years, and my feelings about the Russian communists was similar to my feelings about the communist in our White House today. However, the Russian children murdered by today's barbarians are as worthy of protection as our own. I'd like to see every civilized government in the world decide that it's always open season on terrorists, regardless of who they plan to target.

Thanks for the additional info. Your first post mentions Bodansky; his book on Bin Laden has a little info on Al Qaeda activity in Chechnya. In my edition from 2001, pages 385-386, he expresses concern about Chechnya becoming a future Al Qaeda haven, saying that despite assurances from Chechnya’s president and the Supreme Islamic Council in the United States, “the buildup of Islamist terrorist forces in Chechnya, including Arab, Afghan, and Pakistani mujahideen supported by bin Laden, has continued unabated.” He describes Al Qaeda’s goal as using Afghanistan and Chechnya as springboards to force governments in the Muslim world to turn from alliances with U.S. interests towards closer ties to West European and East Asian companies, thereby weakening American influence in the region. He describes Iran and Pakistan as supporting Al Qaeda in pursuing this goal.

That's because they know who pays their bills. Same goes for the "environmental" movement (which is astroturf) and a good many politicians.

This just keeps getting worse and worse. I just found out that the mosque in Boston, where the bombers attended, was founded by Abdulrahman Alamoudi.

We know enough about Alamoudi to know that any mosque that he founded is not moderate and can be assumed to have connections with Al Qaeda.

You think Alamoudi finances outfits connected to Al Qaeda? Okay.

So....do you think we should be concerned if someone he financed is writing the new immigration 'reform' S 744??

FYI

The ENEMY WITHIN

http://towncriernews.blogspot.com/2013/04/obamas-radical-muslim-advisors-are.html

Wednesday, April 03, 2013
Obama’s radical Muslim advisors are Grover Norquists friends.

[snip]On March 8, ISNA President Mohamed Magid joined 10 other religious leaders in a 90-minute conversation with President Obama about immigration reform.

And now MORE on the ongoing, putrid infiltration of all institutions labeled ‘conservative’ by the one and only Grover Norquist. And you know what the worst part of all this government by republican lobbyists mess is? These entities don’t fund raise on the left whose policies they push...oh, NO, they fundraise from conservatives! Wake up tea party, wake up grass roots GOP...you are being used!

Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood Appointees: (Hat Tip: http://www.investigativeproject.org/)
Arif Alikhan - Assistant Secretary for Policy Development for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Mohammed Elibiary - Homeland Security Adviser
Rashad Hussain - Special Envoy to the (OIC) Organization of the Islamic Conference
Salam al-Marayati - Obama Adviser - founder Muslim Public Affairs Council and its current executive director
Imam Mohamed Magid - Obama’s Sharia Czar - Islamic Society of North AmericaIslamic Society of North America
Eboo Patel - Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships

BUT, there is one more, we talked about her the other day: http://towncriernews.blogspot.com/2013/03/do-you-think-gop-will-stop-abusing-you.html

So.....what on earth do Obama radical Muslim appointees have to do with good ol’ Grover....let’s take a look!

“Through the Islamic Institute, Norquist appears to have developed close relationships with a number of Muslim leaders. When I recently spoke to the Muslim Public Affairs Council’s Salam Al-Marayati, the man who fingered Israel as a potential sponsor of the World Trade Center attacks, he recited Norquist’s phone number from memory.”
http://www.newrepublic.com/article/politics/83799/norquist-radical-islam-cair#

“Thanks to Norquist’s sponsorship, Khan has also been able to infiltrate other Republican circles, including the American Conservative Union. Meanwhile, he’s teamed up with Imam Mohamed Magid, Obama’s Muslim outreach partner, to do interfaith outreach with evangelical Christian leaders in the South....http://www.crossroad.to/News/Islam.html

The Muslim Brotherhood Infiltrates the GOP: [Jamie Glazov interviews Paul Sperry] “After 9/11, FBI agents discovered the founding archives of its U.S. operations during a raid of a terrorist suspect’s home in Annandale, Va. The secret papers revealed that the Brotherhood, which was set up in America with millions in Saudi cash, has a plan to ‘destroy’ America and other Western nations ‘from within,’ and is using its agents and front groups in the U.S. to carry out that strategy. ...virtually every major Muslim group in America is a front for the radical Brotherhood, and they’ve raised millions of dollars for Hamas and al-Qaida right here...They also control most of the major mosques....
“The Islamic Society of North America ISNA] is the leading edge of the Brotherhood movement here, yet it remains a formal outreach partner of the government.... Its president, in fact, just spoke at a Justice Department conference on ‘post-9/11 discrimination.’ Mohamed Magid also prayed with Obama in the White House. ... I’ve seen the matrix with all the names of the leaders in the U.S. Brotherhood’s Shurah Council. They include people Bush prayed with after 9/11. The enemy has been inside the wire for quite some time....
“[Norquist.is] a paid lobbyist for enemies of the United States. Prior to 9/11, he was bankrolled by the General Masul of the U.S. Brotherhood ....Norquist’s old lobbying firm, Janus-Merritt, was a registered agent for Alamoudi, and received some $40,000 from that dubious client. (Norquist and his Muslim partner at the firm also represented the Pakistani government on military aid.) ....On the eve of 9/11, Norquist personally went to the Hill and lobbied to, in his words, ‘get rid of the secret evidence laws which have been used to discriminate against Muslims and Arabs in this country.’...
“Thanks to Norquist’s sponsorship, Khan has also been able to infiltrate other Republican circles, including the American Conservative Union. Meanwhile, he’s teamed up with Imam Mohamed Magid, Obama’s Muslim outreach partner, to do interfaith outreach with evangelical Christian leaders in the South....
“What Norquist does... is dress up Brotherhood agents...to give them political cover and gain the trust of the GOP establishment. Then with the backing of duped party leaders secured, he promotes these neo-Islamists to positions of power inside government.... Here you have a ‘conservative’ who built the Trojan Horse that the enemy is using to infiltrate, sabotage and destroy the U.S. from within. Norquist is helping the U.S. Brotherhood accomplish the ‘Grand Jihad’ spelled out in its founding archives.” See Deceptive alliances .http://www.crossroad.to/News/Islam.html

Good find. That'd also be a link to the American Muslim Council.

Michelle Malkin is covering the Norquist angle AuntB brings up: Abdurahman Alamoudi, the Boston bombers, Grover Norquist, and the GOP.
