Senate Gang of Eight: Immigration Is "Ours To Lose"
ABC ^ | April 18, 2013 | Jordan Fabian

Posted on 04/18/2013 4:40:39 PM PDT by AuntB

The Senate's bipartisan "Gang of Eight" oozed confidence on Thursday that they could deliver on their promise to pass the most significant immigration bill in a generation.

Organizers gathered over 20 leaders from business, labor, religious and civil rights groups in order to display broad support for their plan. In an unlikely pairing, renowned anti-tax activist Grover Norquist stood alongside AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, the leader of the nation's largest labor coalition. Senators from both parties yukked it up with jokes throughout the hour-long affair.

"We'll oppose only those amendments that are intended to prevent a comprehensive solution from passing," said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)...

Graham threw down an ultimatum against opponents of the bill in both parties....

On Thursday, Rubio cajoled conservatives to get on board with the bill.

McCain said that the bill is the critical first move in a long process for the Republican Party to repair its broken image among Latino voters.

After the conference ended, Norquist predicted the Gang of Eight would succeed, arguing that opponents like Sessions and Vitter, who sunk the last immigration bill in 2007, have been marginalized.

Restrictionists, Norquist said, are people who merely "think of themselves as conservatives."

"If you're a Republican, you look at the business community wants it, the religious community wants it," he told reporters. "Who is the opposition? Who in the modern Reagan Republican Party is a no?"

While Congress has proved itself incapable recently of dealing with major pieces of legislation, the senators predicted this time would be different.

"I am convinced this issue will not fall victim to the usual partisan gridlock," Schumer said. "This bipartisan breakthrough offers a degree of hope."

Gang of 8 brings Norquist, Trumka together
http://dailycaller.com/2013/04/18/gang-of-8-brings-norquist-trumka-together/

3:58 PM 04/18/2013

WASHINGTON — The supporters of immigration reform who flanked the bipartisan Gang of Eight as they offered their immigration plan made for strange bedfellows, pairing the some of the loudest conservative activists with some of the most liberal.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka was present, and he stood next to none other than Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Also present was Neera Tanden, present of the liberal Center for American Progress, along with Eliseo Medina, secretary-treasurer of the SEIU.

On the opposite side of the aisle, but behind the same podium, was US Chamber of Commerce executive Vice President for government affairs, Bruce Josten.

Sen. John McCain, one of the authors of the bill, acknowledged that the group of people standing behind the podium were not often seen together.

“I never thought I’d be standing with Richard Trumka,” he said, to laughs. But, he said, that broad bipartisan support was why he believed the bill would succeed.

The immigration reform bill was penned by a bipartisan group of eight senators: Republican Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake, and Marco Rubio, and Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, Bob Menendez, and Michael Bennett.

NOTE: ACTUALLY it was written by Norquist & Conda! Norquist talked about it and it has the stench of Conda...everything he’s ever wanted!

This nation absolutely will-not-survive this bill should it pass. It will not survive.

What results will not resemble what it replaced in any way shape or form. It will more closely resemble Brazil.

I expect such traitorous behavior from leftist democrats. Any republican who cooperates should see their political careers immediately terminated.

Unfortunately this will do nothing to stop the eminent destruction of the USA.

The fix is in. The Democrats gave the GOP the gun bill for their support on immigration. All of this wailing and gnashing of teeth by the Dems on the “defeat” of the gun bill is bulls**t. Immigration will pass. The whole thing is a sham.

Oh. It's not just a rape, but a gang rape.

This bill could be the worst legacy of the Obama administration, even moreso than Obamacare.

I listened to Rubio on Rush today. What he doesn't seem to understand is the fact that this Admin only enforces laws or parts of laws that they like. They will ignore all the parts that Rubio wanted and allow all the parts that will lead to the ruin of this country to be implemented. ‘Traitor’ isn't strong enough for those in charge of this country these days. I would have loved to see ‘anyone caught voting illegally will have their voting privilege revoked for life’ in this Bill. That would be something I could vote for!

But Rubio says there will be a commission appointed by the border governors, including the California governor, to guarantee enforcement if things are not going well five years from now. What could go wrong? /s

Destruction of the USA is already well underway... this just speeds the process.

Enforce the federal immigration law we have now.

There is no point in creating new immigration law if they still get to selectively enforce it.

The feral government needs to prove that it is capable of obeying the law. Once it does that, then we can talk.

Until then, FU all!

Exactly. We must stop this at all costs. Stopping this bill is as important as was stopping the gun controllers. We must flood the Senate with phone calls, e-mail, and letters opposing this immigration bill.

Marco Rubio standing on the same stage with not only Juan McCain but the likes of Chuck Schumer, marginalizes him and will hurt any future chances he has in the future, I believe.

As Rush told him this afternoon on his show, only 4% of Hispanics make up the entire vote, yet there are more than 25% of conservative voters that this group is willing to alienate to reach the 4%.

Rubio is grabbing for the brass ring being offered by the "Renew our Economy" group and those millionaires who backed Romney in 2012.

Look what a boon to Romney it was, oops, I guess it wasn't actually a boon, Romney LOST!

“comprehensive immigration reform”

What is that ???

What does that mean ???

This is not about IMMIGRATION

Theres nothiong broken or wrong about immigration

This is not about IMMIGRANTS

This is about ILLEGAL ALIENS

This is about AMNESTY

This doesnt help IMMIGRANTS

It is designed to help those who dont want to IMMIGRATE

or are not eligible because or disease, criminal background etc...

The United States would not have qualified most of these ILLEGAL ALIENS for IMMIGRATION

So why are they considered good enough to push in line in front of those who have jumped through every hoop...some of them YEARS AGO but still wait..

THis is ANTI-IMMIGRATION

This is ANTI-AMERICAN

This is against the best interests of American and American citizens...

This is TREASON...

“I listened to Rubio on Rush today. What he doesn’t seem to understand”

I adore you all, but I’m only going to say this one more time...RUBIO understands exactly what he’s doing! He is not naive. It’s ALWAYS been about Amnesty and MONEY and POWER.

His chief of staff, who he hired before he was elected has been the biggest amnesty player in DC for 3 decades. His amnesty advisor wrote the Bush amnesty, Grover Norquist! They used the tea party name to get him in and as a fundraiser! This is NOT hard to find out! WHO is going to have the nerve to go after these K st Lobbyists who are writing this bill and lobby for Microsoft, Fannie Mae, unions, anyone on the OTHER side?
