Rush's Morning Update: Emotion

When President Obama used Air Force One to ferry around parents of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary, he understood the politics of emotion. Democrat operatives understood, when they arranged for the parents to lobby 25 senators for a new assault weapons ban.

A guy recently called my show, irate that anybody would describe the Sandy Hook parents as lobbyists. Even though they were lobbying. His objective was to silence criticism. That’s exactly what Obama and Democrats want: a one-sided debate, with the opposition too afraid to speak up, for fear of appearing insensitive to grieving parents.

But there are parents who lost children at Sandy Hook, who are not campaigning with Democrats. One of them, Mark Mattioli, was interviewed by Megyn Kelly of Fox News.

Mr. Mattioli doesn’t believe new gun laws will help. He is calling for existing laws to be enforced, including stiff sentences for lawbreakers. He is equally clear criminals are not going comply with new laws. “There are tens of millions of these [guns] out there and criminals aren’t going to hand them back,” he said. “So why should I be hampered in protecting myself when someone can come to my home and outgun me?”

He described watching lawmakers in Connecticut suspend “reasoning and critical thinking” in favor of “groupthink.” That’s something Democrats hope happens at the federal level with gun control legislation. Because playing on emotion is their only hope. Logic, reason, truth, and the Constitution, are not on their side.

There are two kinds of gun control advocates; The ‘Low Information’ and the ‘True Believer.’

'Low Information’ gun control advocates don’t really know anything about guns. They just repeat whatever sound bite or pithy factoid they’ve heard lately. They are either scared of guns or simply don’t like them. They don’t know why anyone would want to own a real gun. Most simply wish guns would go away. While they may not necessarily intend for everyone’s guns to be confiscated they would most likely say ‘Well, it’s probably for the best,’ and go along with it.

'True Believer’ gun control advocates have one simple goal: To make the private possession of any firearm a felony. Period. They want to confiscate every gun not controlled by the government. Some actually hate guns and believe they are like righteous angels saving mankind. Others see privately held guns as an ‘impediment’ to some other goal or plan to which they subscribe. They will take as many years as necessary to achieve this goal, decades even. They are nothing if not patient. They will never stop. When they grow too old to continue they will pass on the job to the next generation of ‘true believers.’

This bill’s defeat is simply a battle in an ongoing war.

Gun rights advocates must remain forever vigilant.

Perhaps it’s time to amend the Second Amendment by adding “Congress Shall Make No Law” language.

"Perhaps it’s time to amend the Second Amendment by adding “Congress Shall Make No Law” language."

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed

Already there...

Servo1969, if you have, or are thinking about starting, any kind of ping list for these Rush Morning Updates, would you please include me?

Either way, thanks.
