The FBI said there has been 'substantial progress' in the Boston bombing investigation after they analyzed surveillance footage shot from a nearby department store which showed a man planting the second bomb. Investigators said the individual is seen at the site of the second explosion wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a white or off-color-white baseball cap backwards placing a back-pack on the ground while talking on his cellphone. The video obtained by the FBI captures this man using his cellphone at the moment the first explosion detonated 100 yards away on Boylston Street on Monday and 12 seconds before the second blast close to where he is standing. Federal agents then focused on the time-frame of that conversation to retrieve cell-phone records to identify potential callers according to CBS News. Call logs were then obtained through the cell phone masts surrounding the attack zone and using these, investigators matched up the users' identity with the time specific video and pictures to zero in on the individual.

In all the photos being discussed on FR, did anybody recognize someone of this description:
“wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a white or off-color-white baseball cap backwards “
Well yes and no. Being both un-PC and cynical, I believe a large percentage of naturalized muslims from many counties are faudulent "American Citizens," and totally supportive, if not directly questionable US residents.
The guy with the white ball cap does not look white to me. More lighter skinned Middle Eastern than white.
Because he’s not a white guy, so they are trying to hide the pic.
Fairly common at a marathon. I would think whoever dropped off the bombs just kept on walking ... away
On the Oval Office desk?
Yep. A disposable go-phone would work. Or better yet ... why use a cell phone at all? just agree to drop off the packages at a certain time, haul ass (slowly) and the ring leaders watch what happens on live TV
The dude in the white hat is shown in a lot of previous images with a large backpack that he doesn’t have anymore in that photo. There are tons of clear photos of the area before the explosion they are just not being shown on the regular media sites. Yes it’s a marathon and tons of people have backpack and duffels so why not show the photos so someone in the public could say “that’s the dude who bought a pressure cooker here last week” or “that’s my quiet keeps to himself neighbor” Most likely those dudes or whoever they are describing in their “we are looking for...” are already in custody and the feds are trying to find the rest of their cell and connections without alerting them to the fact that they have those guys.
The Times Square bomber was a naturalized American citizen. Doesn’t that warm the cockles of your heart?
You mean the guy in the Kevlar vest.. Who lost his hat in the commotion?
These two fit all the puzzle pieces. Only problem is I don’t see either one on the phone in any of these pics. Might have just used phone during the bombing and that was it.
yep. some good points. The people themselves could help crack this case. I am sure they bought those pressure cookers over here and not as checked luggage ... although I could not tell from the photos if it indicates enough info about the product and where it is likely sold.
That guy had a black backpack... in this photo it’s gone or at his feet somewhere.
Notice most looking outward, he’s rather like “in the Zone”.
(Just to confuse things further) White hat/blue man are seen at bottom of photo in center, still walking together headed to other bomb area. There absolutely MUST be at LEAST two people involved in this attack. HAS to be.
They traced his cell phone - and he had Jim Thompson and Sarah Palin on speed dial.
Tell me another.
My first instinct is that he looks Moroccan.
