Britons and their Queen honor Margaret Thatcher at funeral; Obama not so much
Investor's Business Daily ^ | April 17, 2013 | Andrew Malcom

In one of those ceremonial pageants the Brits invented, former Prime Minister and Baroness Margaret Hilda Thatcher's funeral unfolded this morning on the old streets of London to the sounds of the classical music she loved and the Bible verses at a service in Sir Christopher Wren's St. Paul's Cathedral.

So great is the global appreciation and admiration for the Iron Lady who led Great Britain from 1979-90, that some 2,000 dignitaries attended, including in an historic breach of protocol Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

This was the first funeral of a former prime minister the monarch has attended in nearly a half-century, since Sir Winston Churchill's 1965 state ceremonies. This despite unconfirmed reports of persistent tensions between the two women.

Alas, in a sad slap at its closest ally in Europe, the American president chose to send minimal representation to the funeral and no one ranking from his administration.

President Obama has created his own reputation as anti-British through serial snubs of its leaders and gifts. Whether there's a connection between his obvious feelings and Britain's colonial rule of Kenya, the homeland of Obama's absentee father, is really irrelevant. It's shown Obama as a petty, parochial pol, hardly presidential.

You may recall on his first day in the Oval Office, Obama ordered the gift bust of Winston Churchill removed and returned to Britain. He famously gave Brown a gift of American movie DVD's, which won't play on British machines. He's declined to appear jointly with some Brits and generously gave the queen an iPod packed with recordings of his own speeches.

The Democrat is often photographed with his feet atop the presidential desk, a gift from Britain decades ago made from the timbers of a British man-of-war ...

Normally, for a funeral of someone with Thatcher's historical and diplomatic stature, an American administration would send at least a vice president, even a dufus like Joe Biden ... but Plugs is already busy, scheduled to participate in an online Google+ Hangout.

I’m glad. The stink of a representative from this regime at her funeral would have been an affront to Mrs Thatchers memory.

Colonel Barackamar Obamadaffi is a busy little tinpot dictator these days, what with those irritating North Koreans and "right-wing" terrorists keeping him on his toes...

I thought for sure that John Kerry (Vietnam hero don’t you know) would jump at another chance for a free junket.

I disagree. The most respectful thing Obama could do would be for him and his ilk to steer clear of that solemn ceremony.

Hussein is getting even with the Brits because his Daddy didn’t like them that’s why he sent the bust of WC back when he became POTUS.

It was phenomenally rude to snub one of the great leaders of the 20th century. However, given that Obama’s presence, representing the rejection of Thatcher’s pro-freedom values, would have dishonored her memory, I’m glad that Obama was too rude to attend a ceremony that could not be made to center on his favorite person - himself.

So what. It’s not always about the kenyan. I am thankful he did not soil Thatcher’s funeral with a marxist stooge.

An classless, uncivil, unnecessary, and completely unforgivable snub by Obama. Both he and his father prospered as a direct result of British rule and Margaret Thatcher's terms in office, despite the imagined injustices recalled in his Afro-Marxist screed “Dreams of My Father.”

This Marxist/racist president shows again that he has no appreciation of the Anglo-Saxon tradition. He is a national embarrassment.

Ronald Reagan would not even remove his suit jacket in the oval office, such was his respect. Clinton used it like a seedy motel.

This picture just disturbs me.

Will we never have another like Reagan?

“You may recall on his first day in the Oval Office, Obama ordered the gift bust of Winston Churchill removed and returned to Britain”

I have heard that this oft-repeated story is totally untrue.

I despise Uhbama, but we need to get facts straight.

Regardless of what one may think about him, based on what I’ve read, GW Bush would not remove his jacket either; and, he insisted his staff go back to suits & ties, etc. (a reversal of Bubba’s ‘casual dress’ policy.

This picture greatly disturbs me as well. There was a thread in the last week or 2 that had various pictures of Obummer with his feet on the desk, coffee table, etc. IMHO he has no respect for the Oval Office, the history of the furniture, the office of the Presidency and/or our country.

I’m not sure if we’ll ever have another Reagan, but our country sure could use someone like him right now.

Picture did not surprise me, the little respect Obama has for the office of the President or for the USA.
