Vanity: Shortage of Farm Workers?...
Bay news 9

Posted on 04/14/2013 1:34:09 PM PDT by kas7351

I just watched the local news here in Tampa. They had a segment stating that we have a shortage of workers to work the farms. They interviewed the owner of a strawberry farm and he mentioned that due to the shortage of immigrants being allowed to enter this country, he doesn't have enough workers.

Guess the people on unemployment or that have dropped out of the workforce are too good to pick strawberries? Guess they would rather get the handouts!

Just that the American worker today thinks that they should be treated and entitled to more. I grew up with the fundamentals of doing whatever it takes or am asked to do especially since I was being paid to do a job.

Nothing directed to you personally!

I believe migrant labor tends to work harder in reverse proportion to their numbers in a given area.

Here in CA where we have millions I've seen all kinds of migrant labor, from busy and quality minded (increasingly rare) to lazy, inexperienced and dishonest. There is no one word to characterize them.

I bet you’ve never seen the results of that yourself. Painters Poultry would get a bus load of urban blacks and haul them to the chicken house about 4AM. Within minutes of starting work, they all would be outside complaining of the smell. That would leave whites and Mexicans to do all the work. I personally know they perform badly milking cows, picking vegetables, etc. It wasn’t ability but attitude.

Around here local kids do work on the farms but they aren’t big factory farms.

Good American blue collar and farm workers cannot compete because they want a lifestyle similar to all the rest of us. But with unlimited illegal aliens flooding the country - undercutting the wage base - then jobs for Americans disappear. I can tell that some posters just do not get it ... Illegal aliens live 3-4-5 families to a household - even with low wages they can live just fine this way. Especially when the women go to the welfare, food stamps, and health clinics and LIE on the applications saying that they are not married and that there is no wage earner in her household. Then they go apply under a false name and get some of the same benefits. So the next time some of you guys want to make excuses then remember you are approving a system that shuts out good Americans from earning a living wage. Do you want live 3-4-5 families to a household or you want that for your nephew or neice ? Ten years ago bricklayer wages and meat cutter packing plant wages dropped from around $18.00 an hour to $8.00. Is this what you want for America?

Watch the wild weather events. The shortage of farm workers may not be an issue. There may be a shortage of crops to harvest...and a shortage of food. As long as the government is willing to steal money from productive people and prop up the lazy with EBT, section 8, Obamaphones and subsidized healthcare, there is no incentive to work. When all that largess evaporates, the lazy will turn to rioting first to satisfy their needs and wants. Be prepared. It's not going to be pretty.

I have noticed the crime rates have already started to soar and we are not even to the point that you are talking about. Unfortunately it looks like there will be no stopping this from happening.

If you haven’t been out into the rural areas of the U.S. lately, you’ll be surprised to find how much they’ve changed in the last twenty years. Where you once found trailer parks and shanty towns where poor whites and blacks lived and toiled in the surrounding fields, hog/chicken farms, and meat processing plants, you’ll now find those trailer parks and shanty towns filled with illegal Mexicans who now work these fields, and you’ll ask yourself, “Is this an American success story? Are these poor blacks and whites who no longer toil in the fields now living the American dream?” Where are these poor blacks and whites now living and what are they now doing for a living?” Have they learned skills that will now sustain themselves and their families?”

For the most part, these poor blacks and whites moved to the cities, are now living in government housing, and are spending their welfare checks on the drugs that illegal Mexicans bring into this country. And they’ll live happily ever after only as long as they vote Democrat and you and I continue to work and pay taxes.

Thankfully, we have around to denigrate those who are down on their luck.

Maybe you could walk around with a sandwich sign raising awareness for the down trodden as to how they can imrpove thier lives, right now.

No, skip that. Better idea:

You could star in your very own infomercial and bring joyful tears to their faces for finding you and learning the the mysteries of life.

Great points.

I wonder how the proposal that congress is getting ready to introduce wil address these issues?

Do you think they are going to propose more handouts so the repubs can start buying the votes as the demorats do?

The ILLEGALS have figured out how to work the system instead of work for a living.

No surprise there.

Not sure what you are saying here.

I don’t have all of the answers but I do know that if there is a will there is a way.

Back in 2009 I was downsized with lots of debt and not a lot of money to fall back on. For the first time in my life I did have to take the unemployment that I was due. I stayed on it for 8 weeks until I formed my own business and went to work. I certainly didn’t stay on it as long as I could like most people do today.

That’s the great thing about America even today, people can start their own business easily if they want to. Unfortunately most take the easy way out.

Not only illegals.....

Why do we put up with it or allow our politicians to allow it?

I picked bulbs as a teen one summer.

If I had to, I’d pick bulbs for food money. I’m 44 now and I’d definitely survive the first day.

But my second day wouldn’t start until four days later, when I could move again.

As long as .gov pays a living “wage” to people that sit on their butts. There will be a shortage of low skill labor.

Congress has not listened to concerns of Conservative Americans on this issue in 6-7 years. I don’t think they will start now. The ‘leadership’ of the Republicans in both houses of Congress want to get as far away from Conservatives as they can and are ready - willing and able to become Liberal lite on every issue. Politically Correct Repugs will give away the store - they could not chance offending anyone except Conservatives.

I completely agree. Most of them should be strung up by the neck.
