Authorities on Saturday searched Seagoville storage units as they focused their investigation into the slayings of the Kaufman County district attorney, his wife and a top prosecutor on a former justice of the peace.
Eric Lyle Williams is now the prime suspect in the murder of District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife, Cynthia, and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, law enforcement authorities say.
“We can sleep a lot better tonight,” said one law enforcement official.
Williams, 46, has not been charged in connection with the slayings. He was arrested early Saturday on a terroristic-threat charge after dozens of law-enforcement workers executed a search warrant at his Kaufman home on Friday.
Authorities said anonymous threats recently were emailed to county employees and they were traced back to Williams.

Williams was convicted of stealing county equipment last year and sentenced to probation in a case prosecuted by McLelland and Hasse. That case is on appeal. Williams faces another theft charge in a case related to money allegedly misused from a law library fund.
Williams’ bail on that pending theft case has been revoked. He is being held on bail totaling $3 million.

But suspicion long centered on Williams, authorities say. His first theft case — in which he was accused of stealing three computer monitors — was aggressively prosecuted by McLelland and Hasse. At the emergency room in the hours after Hasse’s murder, McLelland told others that he believed Williams was behind his top assistant’s death. He made similar statements to other people before he died.
Williams lost his job, law license and health insurance.

This story can't be true because the Newsers all reported that the murders were committed by white supremacists ... not a disgruntled former employee ... and that was why we needed to take guns away from everybody!

Okay, killin' a coupla cracker lawmen is one thing, but if your victim looked like President Obama's son, or was a canine-American, boy, you in a heap of trouble.

This is not a story that is going away.
Either we have a former elected official in Texas assassinating another elected official and ADA or we have have a conspiracy to frame a former elected official for murder.
This story will soon make its was to national and world headlines and we will be treated to thorough media examinations of all involved.
prove it, Texas wants to get this guy but can’t tell why. the computer theft thing doesn’t pass the smell test. Now the rest of this? what were these lawyers fighting about? that is all I will concede is that these lawyers were in a fight, the prosecutor prosecuting a judge for needing some computers to do his judge thing, that is just to frickin wierd

I am thinking what you are thinking that the big frame up is under way, the powers that be didn’t shut him up persecuting him for theft of computers and now set him up differently. These prosecutor murders were professional hits, not some ticked off lawyer
It could be a frame-up, or simply a former elected official that is a murderer.
In any case, it would seem to be a Republican intrasquad conflict.

McClellan’s name appears on the 2006 Republican primary ballot for Kaufmann County DA. I don’t know about the assistant DA but I saw where the Dallas Dem DA donated money to help find the killer.I could maybe track down the suspect’s party but I don’t have time right now.Endless speculation is more fun though I guess.
In some counties, the JP is not even a lawyer.

Why are you complaining? The terrorism at Fort Hood was labeled work place violence, and now this incident of going postal was labeled terrorism, so it’s even; it all comes out in the wash.
While there may be a few civil wars brewing in the US, an assassination of an elected DA by an elected JP of the same county and party is not one of them.
Guess we shall see.
