21 NRA ‘A’-Rated Senators Part Of 68-31 Vote To Defeat Filibuster Of Background Check Bill

The Republican plan to block debate on Senate Bill 649, which requires background checks on almost all gun purchases and transfers, failed spectacularly Thursday morning when sixteen Republican Senators joined almost all of the Democrats to vote in favor opening debate on the bill. Among those voting to defeat the filibuster were 9 Democrats with “A” ratings from the National Rifle Association, and 12 A-rated Republicans (out of 16 Republican “ayes”). Two Democrats, Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK), joined the majority of Republican Senators who tried to prevent debate, much less a vote, on the bill.

The plan to filibuster the gun reform measure was met with vocal resistance from some Republicans who, even if they disagree with the policy, felt it deserved debate and a straight up-or-down vote. Going into the vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he felt confident he had the 60 votes required to overcome a filibuster, but he wasn’t certain. As it turned out, it wasn’t even close. The effect of the Newtown parents’ lobbying efforts this week cannot be underestimated, and today’s vote could be a good omen for gun reform.

The Republicans who voted to debate the bill were Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN, NRA rating=A), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH, NRA rating=A), Richard Burr (R-NC, NRA rating=A), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA, NRA rating=A), Tom Coburn (R-OK, NRA rating=A), Susan Collins (R-ME, NRA rating=C+), Bob Corker (R-TN, NRA rating=A), Jeff Flake (R-AZ, NRA rating=A), Lindsey Graham (R-SC, NRA rating=A), Dean Heller (R-NV, NRA rating=A), John Hoeven (R-ND, NRA rating=A), Johnny Isakson (R-GA, NRA rating=A), Mark Kirk (R-IL, NRA rating=F), John McCain (R-AZ, NRA rating=B+), Pat Toomey (R-PA, NRA rating=A) and Roger Wicker (R-MS, NRA rating=A+).

Got a RNC Voter Verification form from Reince Priebus today. It said they needed a contribution to help defeat the Obama agenda. I sent them $0 and a note asking why the hell are Senate Republicans voting against a filibuster of the Gun registration bill. I answered the question by saying they were a bunch of LOSERS.

You’re on the wrong site. That would be Salon or Demon rat Underground. Perhaps the Brady Center...

That’s definately bad but the worste part of the bill is the mental health evaluation requirements- This doesn’t mean that a perosn will undergo a mental health evaluation in person if they own a gun- this means, just like in ny- that someoen will sequester a person’s medical records, OR a nurse or doctor will INFORM the govenrment that a patient of theirs in or was on anti-anxiety, anit-depressents, - anti-psychotic druigs at soem point in their lives, and the police will be forced to go and confiscate guns fro mthat person WITHOUT DUE PROCESS and WITHOUT AN ACTUAL DIAGNOSIS that shows the person is actually dangerous to society- just takign hte meds now is enough to have you deemd unfit to own guns- It’s already happenign in NY and it WILL happen all over the ocutnry as these frigging traitorous republicans ‘compromise’ with the left and violte our constitutinal rights

[[What will the NRA rate the “sorry 21” after this vote?]]

Mmmmp- a ‘bad rating’ wil lreally teach htem how seriosu aqbout preventign violations to the second amendfment the NRA is- Hopefulyl they will also ... eeeeek... give htem the stink eye too- That’ll show em

[[So will it pass the Senate and does it have a chance in the House?]]

We just had 21 republicans vote for ‘debatign the issue’ - of course it will pass the house- if that many turned traitor so easily now, it just goes to show that they will do so when it actually counts too-

NO WAY IN HELL shoudl they be even discussing this vote- they shoudl have sent a clear message “Not on my watch” to the left- and they shoudl have been loudly proclaimign right alogn that there is no way they are goign to vote for a violation of hte second amendment- but isntead we have them ‘agreeign to vote’? This ocuntry has lost it’s moral way-

[[The next primary should be a political....]]

how can it be? America spoke loud and clear when they handily and agreeably reelected the worste president EVER for a secondf term- thjey spoke loud and clear that they woudl rather lose their constitutional rights all for the sake of ‘freebies’ promissed by the govenrment than to do the right thing and vote out hte party who is hell bent on destroyign htis once great nation of ours-

I will be compeltely shocjked IF America actualyl does thwe right thing and kicks these traitors and socialists out of office-

Unbelieveable! In other words, it is nearly impossible to even travel to another state for hunting purposes (deer, elk, pheasants, etc) without actually breaking the law when traveling for you & your firearms & ammo to the other state.

The DCites aren’t listening to constituents or to NRA or any other gunfights groups. They are totally power-mad and out of control, like a 4-yr old on a wild rumpus. They need a blankin’ spanking.

Including 80 million or so gun owners just found out we have no clout any longer in Washington DC, even with our own senators & reps. I guess we really are at war with the socialist bastards (both demoRATS & Repubs) in DC. I wonder when this will turn into the real thing. I pray that Texas & 12-14 southern & western states will declare that enough is enough, and it is now time to secede from the USSA Amerika.

I wonder if any of these idiots realize Newtown residents can’t vote for them.

Just by pure coincidence, the RNC sent me a letter begging for money today. They are getting an envelope back full of coupon buck slips and the list of Repub traitors.

The NRA is filing a law suit in CO against the new law that allows using HIPAA records to deny someone their 2nd Amend. rights. Here is a page of just a few of the suits that the NRA-ILA is supporting right now.

Thanks for info, glad to see that.

I posted to you re: HIPAA on other thread just now. The change further destroys the finest health care system in the world by making a lie of confidentiality... so in lib minds is a double win.
