Obama budget proposes more than $1 trillion in taxes, fees

President Obama's budget proposal includes new tax increases that hit everything from deductions for top earners to packs of cigarettes.

Though the president's newly released plan claims to include $580 billion in new revenue over the next decade, when all taxes and fees are counted the real number is slightly higher than $1 trillion.

Republicans already have said they will not countenance new tax increases, after they already agreed to raise rates on top earners as part of the fiscal crisis deal. But both sides are sure to engage in an exhaustive debate in the weeks and months ahead, particularly as a looming debt-ceiling deadline forces Congress to try to reach a deal.

Do what Obama demands after a sufficient show has been presented.

Again.

the republicans are full of sh1t. they will cave on this like they’ve done on everything else.

it’s just theater for the news and an attempt to lull the conservatives into thinking it won’t happen.

That’s the only thing they’re good at. playing kabuki theater with their democrat friends.

Not all, but the rinos and the GOP purgist elite “leadership”.

“exhaustive debate”

It was 1965, Ft. Benning, GA. My pee-wee football team was taking a break on the field not too far from the ‘Follow Me’ statue in front of the infantry school.

A three-legged standard poodle walked up—painfully, it appeared—and squatted. After straining and grunting for several minutes he managed to pass a peach pit.

Keep it sassy Congress critters!

If the price of cigarettes go up it means the democrats will have to spend more money to bribe the homeless.

Fully agree! There should be a budget each year that shows cuts and spending for current year and projection for the next year. .....We need to see actual cuts NOW, not reductions in increased spending, spaced out over 10 years like they do now. .....No one could run a personal household budget the way the Feds are doing and hope to succeed. You can’t predict what may happen 2-3 years in the future, much less 10 years from now, so it’s idiocy to budget on such a long range future instead of the present.
