Suppose new evidence conclusively proved that we were entering what would become a devastating ice age. Would the far left demand that we burn more coal and oil to save the polar bears and spotted owls? Somehow I doubt it. They would discover that technology is responsible for the ice age too, and their solution would be the same as their solution to global warming - big government and the misery of a low energy, low standard of living culture.
