Responding to a recent spate of trigger-happy cops blowing away the family pet under questionable circumstances, the Colorado Senate passed a bill on Tuesday requiring law enforcement officers be trained to recognize when theyre truly being threatened by an aggressive dog and not simply one thats frightened or playful.

Makes sense, especially when it comes to pit bulls and rottweilers. Not all dogs are vicious, and in most cases (at least in my experience) they generally are posing and are not really a viable threat, if one just moves slow and takes their time.
This will help in the cases where the problem is truly ignorance.
It won’t help in the cases where the problem is sadism.
They’ll save the “trigger happiness” for Christians.
Why not just issue them tasers? The dog would survive.
Or performance-enhancing drugs...
Hey! I have an idea! How about keeping these cops away from anabolic steroids! Might also make them a little less sadistic...
That’s actually a very good idea. Testing for steroids.
If it’s like training where I work it means they have to look at a lame video for like 20 minutes and then answer some equally lame questions about said video.
I’m very glad to see this. Not sure that bill itself will do any good, but this put LEO’s on notice that the shooting of pets has come to the attention of the legislature. Think of it as a warning shot across their bow.
This is a small step in the right direction. The whole paramilitary, swat thing needs to be taken down quite a few notches.
So the problem isn’t a bunch of childish, trigger-happy sociopaths but that there wasn’t a law to train them??
Barney Fife HAS to shoot something to assert his authority. If not the family dog, then what?
Are we talking about the cops, the legislators or the idiots that elect them?
Pretty much every one of those. :)
