Sources Report Senate Republicans Caving on Guns
Red State ^ | 4/9/2013 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 04/10/2013 5:57:05 AM PDT by IbJensen

Sources inside the Senate tell me that the Republican Conference is scared to death of the tactics of Senators Lee, Cruz and Paul – that it is supposedly putting them in a tough spot.

Several of the Republicans are using the Manchin-Toomey compromise plan as an excuse to cave on the gun filibuster. They claim that Senators Lee, Cruz, and Paul are running ahead of the conference in their insistence on a filibuster.

What they fail to see is that the cloture vote is the vote to stop the gun legislation from passage.

Several Republican Senators intend to vote against the filibuster, but then vote against the overall bill. This is too clever by half. The GOP does not control the Senate as the GOP is want to say every time they don’t want to fight.

Their only power to block a gun control bill is to unite and filibuster.

Voting for cloture is voting for the gun control bill because, again, as the GOP reminds us, they are not in the majority. The only way to stop it is to filibuster.

With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?

Perhaps that's their strategy

Do we know the name of the student he bumped out to take a seat at the military academy?

Does he have a real marriage or a clintonian marriage?

They don’t want to fight so they will be replaced.

The Washington establishment does not realize that the Revolution has begun, just the shooting has not started on the people side yet. The Constitution is under attack (on all levels not just the 2nd Amendment) by those we intrusted it to, and they swore to protect. (Just words to them? The Peoples Document is not just words to dance politically around, Amend at will or destroy. IT IS THE PEOPLES DOCUMENT. It is the People’s protection from the Government, The Protection of the Republic...

It is time to clean house in Washington from the top down, if not, I fear it will get messy... The Constitutional Patriots have seen enough. Or Founders gave us a free Republic. The question still remains “WILL YOU KEEP IT”.

[Article] Several of the Republicans are using the Manchin-Toomey compromise plan as an excuse to cave on the gun filibuster.

Author Erickson still doesn't get it.

These guys are caving because they're getting whispery phone calls from RiNO contributors and corporate board chairmen and principal stockholders (but I repeat myself), murmuring that it might be a good idea if the President were enabled to start seizing firearms ..... as long as the GOP is not standing around to receive any of the blame from the base.

Corporate types hate 2A and do NOT want the hoi polloi owning firearms. Their view of our place in the world is medieval and very, very humble.

the left wingers want [permanent] records.

So do the RiNOs and their Business Elite constituency .... and confiscation too.

Pew Trusts' sociology surveys finger the business RiNO's as the most likely group to roll over on 2A supporters and give the store away to the Left totalitarians.

It's like the song says,

Your enemy can't do you no harm,
'Coz you know where he's coming from ....

Old wisdom, played out afresh by false friends.

They’ve probably ALL been bugged.

As if it’s needed. Ha! Just wave a night out on the town with Dear Leader and they would cave. Disgusting.

After they hold their meeting they’ll retire to the Senate cloakroom in order to make out.

True, at least we can hope.

The Congress & Senate were never meant to be career positions nor was any other Government office. This idea of our founders has been perverted into a power and money making business. Political Office Term Limits are essential to eliminating the Career seeking Federal Politicians and the outrageous life long perks after leaving office. It was not meant to be a job to retire from. It was meant to be a short term public service, nothing more! 2 Terms would be a good move to keep the riffraff in line. True it will also limit good people from serving longer, but even the good become polluted in Washington’s power politics.

2 Terms and out, go back to being an attorney or whatever else you formerly did or move to State or local Politics but out of Washington out of the Federal Perks and temptations. This is what our Forefathers intended the Government to be, a Government buy the People for the People! Not a bad idea in IMHO.

It is the People’s protection from the Government
*******
History is replete with examples of excessive government power and subjugation of people. Thomas Jefferson was absolutely correct when he said: “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”

The last I heard was that 15 Repub senators had signed onto the filibuster, including Mitch McConnell. Irregardless of what the "Republican conference" is whining about, I hope & pray that Lee, Cruz & Paul and the other 12 Repub senators have the balls & courage to fight this and to proceed with the filibuster as planned. If they don't have the courage & balls to proceed.... then the Republic is lost and they were nothing more than cowardly bastards to begin with.

I swear there is something emanating from the walls of both the House and Senate chambers that emasculates Republicans and turns them into the worst kind of quivering RINO wimps!!

“Several Republican Senators intend to vote against the filibuster, but then vote against the overall bill.”

The filibuster is the only place the Republicans have enough numbers to stop the bill. A vote for cloture is a vote for gun control.
