Gave up TV.

Posted on 04/10/2013 5:28:06 AM PDT by Quickgun

I gave up satellite TV over a year ago now. I get all my news either here, Drudge Report, Breitbart, or my local newspaper has a webpage, as the local TV station, for local news. The wife and I do more things together, We hardly miss the few channels we used to watch some, such as the History channel, Discovery. We were paying over $100 a month to "fund the enemy". Network news, like many posters here have commented, has become nothing but a propaganda tool. Let them preach to their choir, I say. What do others here at FR think?

yep ... free TV works. I went to an antenna box. Have local. Spouse couldn’t give up American Adal (yep, misspelled on porpoise). There was a huge fight over the shopping network channel in the house. There was no ammo being sold.

Yep, if they just want to worship Obama, and not even tell us who has .22LR in stock, they are worthless. And, giving it up meant more time for reloading..

Now try OpenOffice so you can give Microsoft a shove out the door...

Or LibreOffice, if one needs to share working folders with others in real-time. I don't, so OpenOffice is all that is needed for my once-in-a-while use.

Gave up cable and satellite here a year ago. We still have the antenna for off the air, mostly crap anyway.

Thanks, Resettozero - have a great point! Also, congratulations.
I don’t think that I could do it. Maybe if I start reading those things called “bu- ...bo... boo...books!” Yeah... “books”!

I haven’t watched MSM for years the only News is what comes from the net. I have a radio show I do 5 nights a week that keeps me busy.
I do watch Western channel and a few movies on Encore. The Girls watch several shows that are appealing to them but I am uaually parked in front of the monitor!
As far as TV News goes it seems like the Commentators are always in a high piched voice trying to stir panic. The Weatherman can’t stand it when there is no catastrophic storm brewing from the west! Philly News breaks into any show to show some truck overturned on the freeway for an hour so you’d miss whatever you were watching anyway! So the PC keeps me entertained for the most part! Especially FR lol!

Welcome to the club!

I gave up TV when I moved last year and have not missed it!

Since then I get all my news here or drudge or satellite radio (WORTH IT!!!) patriot station, and I am still way more informned on what is going on than anyone else around here.

There are also so many trainign videos on YouTube and other places- I have leanred how to pour concrete, do roofing, landscaping, motorcycle and auto repair, raising chickens, gardening for food, and there is so much more to learn I cant imagine ever stopping to search for new things to learn!

There is a wealth of knowlege online- learn it now before the SHTF

fund an industry that loathes them and actively works
against them is beyond me.

If it wasn’t for the husband, I would get rid of it in a heartbeat. I very, very rarely watch anything on television, and we too are paying about $100.00 / month for the 4-5 channels the husband watches.

We would never give up TV, watch it every night. Local news but none of the ABCNBCCBS sit coms stuff. Just History Channel, Science Channel, Fox News, Comedy Channel and movies, that kind of stuff. We read a lot too.

Good for you, we recently got and have been enjoying a roku box...as a substitute for cable TV.

Yikes! the run around my wife got when she tried to cancel cable tv...we have a bundled system from Verizon.

Our bundle includes land line, cell phones, DTV and high speed internet. So we’re still funding the enemy till I can figure out a good cable tv withdrawal strategy.

I can’t do that merely because I need to watch the Masters in full HD, start to finish.

So, may we all infer that you have also declined to pay taxes?
