Toronto dad upset he's not allowed to watch daughter's swim class

When in Muslim countries, you must conform your behavior to Muslim sensibilities. When in non-Muslim countries, you must conform your behavior to Muslim sensibilities. "Toronto dad upset he's not allowed to watch daughter's swim class," by Jenny Yuen for the Toronto Sun, April 6 (thanks to all who sent this in):

TORONTO - When a single dad signed his nine-year-old daughter up for female-only swim lessons, he didn’t realize he — as a man — was going to be banned from watching her practice.

Chris (who didn’t want his last name published) was shocked when he had the blinds to the viewing area of the Dennis R. Timbrell Recreation Centre pool in Flemingdon Park shut on him and then was told by staffers it was for “religious reasons.”

“I spoke to a staff member and she told me that it’s because of Muslim women, that we’re not allowed to look at them or whatever,” Chris, 38, told the Toronto Sun Friday. “I don’t think religion has a role to play in a public pool.”

Chris said he enrolled his daughter online through the city’s website and registered her for the Ultra Swim 1: Female class – a nine-week course offered for free at the community centre.

Nowhere on the form did it mention that males could not watch the lessons.

So, when he showed up with his child at the pool on March 28 and again on Thursday night, he was confused when told he wasn’t allowed to watch.

“She doesn’t have a lot of friends and I wanted her to swim with girls,” Chris explained. “I don’t know what parent wouldn’t want to watch their child participate. There were other fathers there who weren’t too happy.”

Local Councillor John Parker hadn’t heard of the particular case until the Sun contacted him Friday, but said the dad’s point is a “legitimate one” and raises a “fair issue.”

“If we have a young child and there is a desire for the parent to provide supervision I would hope that we would not be so inflexible,” he said.

The Ward 26-Don Valley West councillor said there are only so many hours available in the pool.

“So we have to decide and we have to determine just what are the options that are available to us and how many hours are there in the day to allow the different options that communities want,” Parker said. “So far the pressure has been to provide hours for women only, this gives rise to the legitimate question: ought we to find time for mixed groups precisely to accommodate the concern that this parent has raised.”

Female-only swim programs began 20 years ago on the basis of “accommodating cultural and religious practices and requirements,” confirmed city aquatics manager Anne Jackson.

“Without a female-only program, there would be women that wouldn’t be able to participate in swimming,” Jackson said. “This is the way it needs to be in order to accommodate the programs. We’re not opening the door to one cultural group only — this is all females we’re accommodating.”

Late last month, Dennis R. Timbrell began a male-only swim course where only men could watch from the sidelines — no moms. The program bred from the same religious/cultural reasons, Jackson said.

If any parents wish to watch their child who is enrolled in a female or male-only swim class, they would have to move them to a mixed boys/girls class that runs three days a week.

The weekly gender-specific swim classes are open to anyone from two to 18, but Jackson said the city won’t consider separating existing classes into younger age groups (that would allow parents of the opposite sex to be present) because it wouldn’t “accommodate the needs of the majority of people who want to participate in a girls-only program.”...

"These would be the same fools who have absolutely no problem telling you why prayer in school or Christmas displays in the public square can't be tolerated."

Yes. The suffocating, mindless herd mentality of so-called "liberals" (there's nothing liberal about them) makes any sane person want to scream for unadulterated truth--desperate for any place where people can just be truthful!

Are these people morons?

Are they so in love with their collective illusions as to be blinded by them? Yes. That's it. And God help us! They are in control of North America!

“I don’t think religion has a role to play in a public pool.”

Get used to it... "religion", i.e. submission to muslim increasing muslim demands, is a fact of life in Canada and in parts of the U.S.

Every neighbourhood is populated to some degree with them - Canada is rolling over and playing dead for them, city by city.

As muslims continue to usurp power up there, it'll be interesting to see how they and the homosexual community will coexist.

Maybe they should add a lead lining so that infidels with x-ray glasses can’t see through the suits.

I’m in agreement that parents should be have enough access to monitor their kids’ activities. However . . .

The argument that this keeps Dad from having “quality time” with his daughter is silly. She’s in the water, for crying out loud. Surely he wasn’t planning to jump in with her.

He can spend quality time with her before and after. Car rides are great places for conversation.

If she’s in class for instruction, she needs to be paying attention to the teacher, not Dad. Does he go to school with her, too?

The idea of older men watching pre-pubescent girls at the pool is actually kinda creepy. Dad just needs to take a book with him and let the kid swim.

“The idea of older men watching pre-pubescent girls at the pool is actually kinda creepy.”

Your premise is in need of revision.

You imply the visual presence of adult males at their daughter’s swimming class is a prurient sexual situation.

Sources, please.

Also, please be so kind as to omit articles authored by, the whirling eyed droolers from the assorted religious extremist sects of whatever faith.

” The problem isn’t Islam ... the problem is the whole idea of a public swimming pool — and the abject idiocy of a municipal government in which taxpayers actually foot the bill for a person called the “city aquatics manager.””

Well, this is a local government, they can run a swimming pool if that is what the local populace wants. I don’t see anything wrong with that. You can certainly argue there is a public interest in the public being able to learn how to swim, since it is a pretty basic and invaluable skill in life.

These would be the same fools who have absolutely no problem telling you why prayer in school or Christmas displays in the public square can't be tolerated.

You forget that Catholics won't burn your house down, blow up your car or chop your head off if you say Jesus wasn't the Son of God.

Have some sympathy for the hypocrites.

As a dad of only girls, it is always a shock to my system to encounter unexpected roadblocks in my daughters' extracurricular activities that I just don't expect. I can't take a lunch to my daughter at her dance recital, because there are other girls also in the room with her, presumably also eating their lunches. I fail to see how being in the presence of a room of prepubescent girls should somehow be forbidden for all fathers. Neither the situation nor the girls are sexual in any way, except for that implied by the policy itself.

Even the act of dropping her off and picking her up from dance sometimes grants me suspicious looks askance from instructors and mothers.

I suppose the policies are in the general interest of the girls at large, or are at least intended to be so, and therefore intended to be also in the general interest of my daughter. But when I look at any other dads treated the same way, I don't see predators - I simply see the fathers of my daughter's friends.

Perhaps I am naive, or perhaps I am rightly, deeply offended at the presumption of guilt simply because I happen to be the father of girls.

One of the spookiest experience of my life took place a couple of years ago during a trip to Dubai. It was warm (November) and I decided to try a swim in the Persian Gulf (a new experience for me).Went to a public beach and as I approached there were all sorts of warnings not to take photos in that area.”Strange”,I thought.Got to the water's edge and saw several women with Western style suits (the more modest ones, not the ones that display just about everything) and I also saw several women...sitting on the sand...wearing those black head-to-toe things you see them wear in a mosque. It would have been interesting to have been there while the beach was crowded...which it wasn't when I was there.

“Perhaps I am naive, or perhaps I am rightly, deeply offended at the presumption of guilt simply because I happen to be the father of girls.”

Naive, probably. Have you not learned that in the Age of Wymon, all males are considered to be potential rapists, beaters of females, ad nauseam.

Thanks to the FemiNazi Movement, presumption of innocence for males has been removed in favor of presumption of guilt. In the instant case, “Prove you are not seeing those girls as sex objects!”

Negative proofs being impossible (and the Commie/FemiNazis who caused those laws to be passed KNEW it was an impossible burden), a male now is in the unconstitutional position of having to prove his innocence.

I refuse all business with Libtards and FemiNazi’s. They are well demonstrated “vexations to the spirit”.

Thanks for sharing that experience. I've seen photos of Dubai .. amazing city.

For many years, I would visit the beaches along the Adriatic coast of Italy. A few years ago, I read an article about one of those beaches that, due to the large number of Muslim tourists and residents, had set aside a designated area for their use. Here too, no cameras were allowed. Next, it will be the US.

And therein lies the problem. "What the local populace wants" is subject to interpretation, revision, and yes -- even outright abuse.
