I think it was back when the b-52s were around. A couple of ‘em flew low and loud enough to break windows in the area, and a spate of complaints came in.
One was from a rancher, who said,”Your aircraft came in low and broke the sound barrier - and three of my windows. However, I can’t gripe. If it was the Russians, they’d have broken more than my windows. Keep ‘em flying.”
We had some problems with fighter jets breaking the sound barrier in the 60’s, and a lot of people complaining about the noise. I actually saw one guy do it, I was standing outdoors and saw a fighter jet dive at the town and pull up at a few hundred feet, shaking the whole town with a sonic boom. I can’t identify the type at this late date. No sonic booms from the B-52s, just a loud rumble and a cloud of black smoke.
B-52s are still flying and good to go.
