MSNBC promo: “We have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents”

Via Legal Insurrection, between this and Krystal Ball’s Socratic dialogue with a five-year-old about gay marriage, evidently it was indoctrination weekend at MSNBC. The novelty here isn’t the sentiment, it’s the candor. Hillary made this same point more digestible for the public by ladling on warm-fuzzy sauce about a “village” raising a child together. (Similarly, don’t think of huge government programs as budget-busting liabilities. They’re Christmas presents!) Harris-Perry had 30 seconds to give her version of the same point; when you’re operating within those time constraints, there may be no way to make the pitch in terms less creepy than this. I almost want to congratulate her for throwing a word as clammy as “collective” in there. It shows a certain bravado.

Here’s your counterpoint, from 2011, on whether the U.S. is “investing” enough in education. Another half-trillion or so ought to turn things around, I think. No wonder Ron Paul’s getting into home-schooling.

Update: Apologies to John Sexton. He had the Harris-Perry video yesterday and linked to the same USC post I linked to above, but I honestly didn’t see his item at Breitbart until after I posted this.

Just today, I met a young woman in the dentist’s office...she was the receptionist. On the floor near her, her baby was in his carrier. She said he is four months old and already a “handful,” so she has to take him to work to spare her “boyfriend” the hassle.

Then on the way home, yes, same day, I saw a young woman walking away from the school bus with her little girl, who was around 5 or 6. The child looked absolutely haunted, dirty, staring into space as if she were drugged or horrified or confused or all three. The young woman was practically dragging her.

I’m aware that government is no solution, and I have a deep contempt for child protective services, but I am also constantly reminded that many children in this world are being raised by wild animals on two legs. Animals who don’t marry, don’t teach their young, and sometimes don’t even clean them up. All I can do is pray.

There are no hardships or consequences, social or otherwise, for behavior leading to children without married, committed parents.

If that is where she is going to stake her argument, then she’d better come out in defense of the babies that survive an abortion attempt and are born alive. Mama may not want them but they aren’t really her “problem” anymore and it’s out of her body so there goes that argument too.

Unless she is willing to stand up for Communism’s purge panels to determine who lives and dies.

“That’s how your post make me feel. It’s a bit too “generally speaking” actually.”

Maybe so, but it’s also true! Black “society” is a disgrace. The idea that men like Col. West and Dr. Carson have to put up with it saddens me greatly. I can’t recall ANY public institution that’s black-run that’s a success. Atlanta/Chicago Schools, Detroit, Newark, DC; you pick one! Then there’s old “Congressman Guam is Going to Capsize Johnson, and Sheila Jackson Lee. And of course, the biggest disgrace of all, BH Obama! Is any of this incorrect?

Is that you Satan?

BTW, it is a Biblical idea, not a "private" idea.

It's nothing anymore. We've been on this path since the Pill was invented. Marriage as an institution was doomed when that came about. Now the last few generations are dying out, that did not and would not behave like breeding animals. The younger ones all think they can do as they please, have babies when they please, part company when they please. No commitment to God, family, spouse, child.

There will be a backlash against this false freedom, the only question is whether Heaven or some totalitarian hell will step in to settle it.

Forgot this one. Good old Toni Preckwinkle from Chi Town, who wants to tax our guns! Another one of “Holder’s People!”

I think it’s important to meditate on what this woman is really saying.

Children don’t belong to parents. Logically follows that parents don’t belong to children. With that, no one “belongs” to anyone, and therefore, no one has any responsibility for or toward anyone else. We’re all just to be like free roaming animals in the wild, I guess.

There is no such thing as a FAMILY.

I’m sorry, but without my family, MY life would not be worth living.

What else is there, besides family to be born into, to grow up in, to carry on, to rely on?

This is so SICK AND TWISTED ....

But, heck, Hillary’s been promoting this for a long time ...It Takes A Village, don’t you know?

Come with me ...I’ll show you kids with scabies infections so bad they need antibiotics. Kids who are left with grandparents for weeks while mom is off and partying. Kids suffering from bedbugs ...abuse, filthy home surroundings, hunger.

I’m going to tell you that a lot of grandparents also enable a lot of this. Sure, honey ...leave those kids with me — just go do whatever you want because I know you’re a loser and I’m going to clean up your mess some more ...

It’s nuts.

What is our “posterity” if the children don’t belong to their parents?

There is no posterity ...there is only The State.

Amazing that they slipped that into the Constitution. They were brilliant. We are to work and pass it on to our kids ..not the State.

“I think it’s important to meditate on what this woman is really saying.”

Your post covers the main issue, and does it very, very well.

My comments were directed at the black woman with the hyphenated last name who was the primary spewer of this disgusting notion that children are really the “wards of the state.” My point was that to her this was logical and it was “supported” by the preponderance of Black women in our society. Who procreate without the benefit of marriage and a family then seek to drop their offspring on the rest of us to pay to raise. They are overloading us with “Travon Martins.”

it sounds like the public schools have replaced Atheism as the State Religion and gone fully over to full blown Communism

The simplest way to refute this notion would be to win both houses in 2014. Which is going to happen, just a matter of how much.

A supermajority in both houses -- the opportunity to right the ship -- is not an impossibility.

There have been a few through the years. I can think of a couple right now.

It is very seductive to a man of knowledge. Many a person has died because a “philosopher” thought he knew best.
