It's his third event in as many hours, and he looks tired; his voice nearly gave out the day before. But social conservatives have rarely enlisted in the libertarian army, and Paul is trying to build a new coalition that can revitalize a deflated GOP.

That was a surprisingly fair article.
He must scare a lot of the GOPe and Demmocrats.
We attended our county’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner last night. Featured speaker was NRA President David Keene.
He said much the same thing; the party needs reinvention.
Sadly, this was probably lost of the 500 or so gray hairs in the audience.
What kind of reinvention is my question? There are some working to make it more Democrat-lite. That works in some states and we’ve got Kirk to prove it. We will also likely get a homosexual GOP candidate for governor shortly. He may win.
If they drift away from family values and economic liberty they won’t be my party any longer.

Hopefully, it will be the Rand Paul kind of reinvention which can be summed up as:
-Drastically cut federal spending.
-Strictly adhere to the Constitution and confine the federal government to those constitutional constraints.
-When in doubt, defer to the 10th Amendement.
We would be a heck of a lot better off as a nation, that is a certainty.
The only thing I despise about Rand’s agenda is his being soft on illegal immigrants. Other than that, I agree with him almost across the board. The future of the GOP lies with Paul, Cruz, Lee and, to a lesser extent, Rubio. That is “reinvention” I can live with.
Parties are not invented. GOP has been sailing under a false flag and the jig is up.

I agree, although it isn’t clear to me what Rand is proposing on immigration. Our current system of legal immigration is the problem.
You may be on to something.
When I read Rand’s list of federal agency cuts a few weeks ago, I thought he might just be the one.
Especially since he meets all the qualifications of the NBC scab pickers and dividers who come out of the woodwork from time to time.
What I keep in mind is that if Rand were President his actions would be limited by Congress and the Courts. He’d have to move thoughtfully and nimbly in finding consensus.
It would be fairly easy to eliminate redundancies within and between departments, shrink departments and shut some down by divesting their funds and transferring those funds, with only mild limitations, to the respective states.
It would be impossible for him to radically alter America alone. He’d have to create liberal and conservative coalitions idea by idea and issue by issue. It would be very healthy for this country to have those kinds of debates.
I’m done freaking out at every nuance of a candidate. That got us Obama and a bunch of morons who thought Romney or every McCain would have been worse.

Also listen to Levin's Podcast on Friday night where he reference's M. Stanton Evan's article on the fact that the Progressives are not reproducing and that if the GOP/RNC gets a spine and holds fast and does not knuckle under to immigration reform to replenish the DNC's ranks we have a fighting chance...

I like both Rand and Ron Paul, and don’t care what a candidate looks like but I have to wonder if Ann Coulter is right... no one of short stature can be elected president today.
While Ron is close to 6ft.... Rand is only 5’7” or 5’8”. I remember people commented that Dubya looked short, and I believe he’s at least 5’11”. Of course if they’re running against Hillary... no one could accuse him of bullying her if they appear of equal height lol
Lets hope we can convince the country of that fact.
In reality I don't think anyone has any idea of how far a president can really go in crippling unconstitutional federal agency's.
From deliberately miss-allocating their personnel, to appointing deliberately incomplete(or unmotivated) folks. Like Obama’s executive amnesty.
A Conservative president could effectually end a whole lot of the Federal welfare state by theses simple means and do it in a way that serves to fuel the idea that the Federal government is not a place to invest your money or liberty. This is the power of saying No.
Think about it, what is a federal court going to do when your “failing” to provide some service? They can't make personnel operate efficient or effective. Even if they could declare Rand Paul as not excuiting the laws Rand Paul can always claim there is some "new" bureaucratic problem preventing operation.
At the end of the day all the Federal court can do is:
1: Halt prosecutions(which does them any good because Rand Paul is not prosecuting anyone.) or
2: Deliver civil verdicts when folk sue the government for "their services". (which would take years and require abrogation of 'sovereign immunity'(A big + for us down the road), as well as the invention of numerous entitlement "rights" for every "malfunctioning" service.) Even then when all is said and done, Rand Paul could still refuse to pay out the verdicts just as Madison refused to issue the writs in Marbury vs Madison 200 years ago.
Or if he liked he could may payout soo slow and ineffective that its not worth it.
For years democrats have always campaigned claiming if we were elected we would end theses programs, and our leaders never did, nor did they ever think they could. Although some tried thou congress, but congress does not act until a thing becomes political reality.
No is the most powerful and important word in the English language. Its time we start using it.
The problem with illegal immigration is a political problem. A problem that has diliberality been associated with particular ethic groups by the democratic party in the interest of polarizing them against any kind of control.
We must put a non-Hispanic and criminal face on the illegal immigration problem.
We also have to address the labor and humanitarian problem.
