Six Americans, including three civilians, killed in attacks in Afghanistan

Three American civilians and three U.S. troops were killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said, marking the deadliest day for Americans in the country this year and suggesting that even as the military coalition has shifted its focus to drawing down, the Taliban remains committed to fighting.

The attacks came as Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived in Afghanistan to take stock of the war as U.S. officials continue to deliberate how quickly they should pull out the 68,000 American troops still deployed in the country.

Coming days after an unusually deadly coordinated attack on a courthouse in the country’s relatively safe west, Saturday’s bloodshed indicated that the United States might face an intense “fighting season,” the springtime period in Afghanistan during which violence typically increases.

In Saturday’s deadliest attack, in the Qalat district of the southern province of Zabul, insurgents detonated a bomb when a convoy transporting U.S. troops and civilians and another one carrying the governor of the province intersected. The blast, in an area that has long been a Taliban stronghold, killed three U.S. service members and two American civilians, officials said.

I don't come into contact with returning military, but as I recall my OWN return to CONUS, not only were things different than when I left, but people acted and talked (I assumed thought, also) and I spent a week or so just bouncing around trying to find my way

It was 1967 and I left in '65.

Been to quiet in that district for some time. My nephew a former Marine now a civilian contractor resides in one of the two FOB's in Qalat district of Zabul.
My ears went up when viewing this attack at Fox earlier on.

Damn ... didn't finish my thought ... ;

So I wonder what warriors must go through while in a combat zone.

Do they get news and information?

How does it sit when you know your congresscritter is a criminal and no one seems to like your decision to be military, and your so called CIC is ...

Never mind ... I'll get banned.

Not a word of condemnation from the white house. His anger is reserved for people who say bad things about headchoppers.

Must be those two Christian’s in the Hindu Kush again. Where’s the social injustice?
Sorry, honestly praying for family and friends of our MURDERED soldiers but danged if not in more sarcastic mood after just reading the articles that evangelical Christians are more terrorists than islum. This must be the reason why Major Hasan the MURDERER still retians his status as an officer and gentleman

You bet...Try to imagine coming home nowadays and half those in your hometown now speaks Spanish...

Better yet, since Bush allowed in more Muslims after 911 than the previous two decades...Wrap your head around that.

Is the WaPo reporter stupid, or just dumb? So he’s wondering of the Taliban is committed to continue on fighting while the US withdraws.

How about a big fat “YES” dumbo. It is SOP for both Communist and Islamic forces to keep on fighting to the very end of whatever.

Where does the WP get these military/ideological strategy eunuchs as their reporters?

If I had written ignorant crap like this from Vietnam/Cambodia, I would have expected to be fired before I returned.

You always learn the strategy and tactics of “the” enemy (a handful of American reporters didn’t consider the No. Vietnamese/VC as “their” enemy because they were “journalists” and had no specific loyalty to their own country).

Another WaPo disgrace to journalism, the third such example of that type of writing this week (another one concerned discredited charges that Thomas Jefferson had an illegitimate baby by his slave Sally Hemings, and the other concerned a book review about Communist Party leader Angela Davis which totally covered up her early Party involvement).

It just keeps getting worse and worse in the Left media, with no end in sight.

Recently, while watching the TV documentary “Bomb Patrol - Afganistan” I asked myself, “Why the hell are we even in that waste land?” Our troops are not able to fight the enemy unless the enemy fires first. Troops are put into situations where there are high degree of possibile casualties and deaths, major military material losses and the list goes on and on. There is NO WIN there and the Russian’s were smart enough to realize it when the pulled out. The faster we can get out of there the better. That, in itself is something I COULD agree with our gubmit on. Cut our losses and forget it.

Yep...either win it or leave....otherwise it’s insanity in that God forsaken place. If they wanted to be free of the Taliban then they should have been more co-operative...and our guys should not have been restricted from doing thier job.

Bring them home...not one more life should be given for these people who have no intensions but the status quo.

This is like our leaving Vietnam all over again. My question, who will be on the last helicopter out of that hell hole? Perhaps the best thing to do as we leave would be to put down an anthrax barrage. While that surely would not be the Christian thing to do, according to our fearful leader, we are not a Jadeo-christian nation anyway so what difference would it make. I’d also love to know where those with all the billions we poured into that place are with their ill gotten gains. Time for some take out teams to find and eradicate them too wherever they are. Gee, that would even be a good use of all these drones we have amassed.
