US News ^ | 4-5-2013 | Richard Satran

The Internal Revenue Service is collecting a lot more than taxes this year--it's also acquiring a huge volume of personal information on taxpayers' digital activities, from eBay auctions to Facebook posts and, for the first time ever, credit card and e-payment transaction records, as it expands its search for tax cheats to places it's never gone before.

I have standard fake data I use consistently — I can remember what I lied about and it is of no use to bg check me.

>>This sure sounds like a direct attack on the 4th Amendment about privacy.<<

The IRS has been exempt from the USC, particularly Amendments IV and V, since its inception. I have never understood the legal theory other than “you have our money and we will use any and all means to get it.”

Any legal eagles out there that can supply a summary of cases, etc?

A good and smart action on your part.

Problem with that is that a fishing lisence is an official state document and doing what you suggest is perjury.

Having respect for "government" has long passed. Sadists in government lie to us daily and actively seek to destroy our way of life.

perjury? Do you think many government official at any level respects the citizens? H*ll no.

Lying to government parasites will likely grow exponentially -- that's a good thing. We need to thwart the system with false data.

The rule of law HAS been indeed been replaced with the rule of Man. Perjury over a phone number? --- how 50's is that...

You hit the nail on the head. This is because of ObamaCare. It provided an excuse to do all this tracking.

I don’t twitter or FB

That's good. Let the pervasive progressives indoctrinate all the 20-something and next generation teen voters who live their lives there.

That has already happened. This generation is lost.

But if you want to open yourself to ID theft and government intrusion who am I to suggest otherwise?

My accounts are basically fictious persons.
I just like to make liberals’ heads explode.
I realize the Baraqqis can get my IP data, but they already have that from FR.

Facebook, LinkedIn and similar sites are for the perpetually lonely and stupid.

Agree with you about Facebook. Never realized so many people enjoyed giving themselves proctological exams for the voyeuristically inclined.

Disagree with you about LinkedIn, however. When used strategically and to your advantage, LinkedIn is great for business development purposes. That said, I never seek, nor post recommendations.

FReegards!

"Do you think..."

What I think does not matter. If advertising on the internet your willingness to commit perjury appeals to you, go to it. My post was merely stating a fact. Whether you or the FReeper I posted to want to be a test case...do as you see fit.

I wonder if nowadays not being on LinkedIn will result in people not getting hired?

No cheat here. I’m poor, facing foreclosure, and unashamed of that fact. My finances are an open book for anyone who wants to know. I’ll be sending these SOBs $800 - and that’s just for the business. Don’t have a clue how I’ll pay my personal taxes this year.

Over 50 posts and no comments regarding “Foorprint” in your title? I’m shocked! FReepers are either slow today, or kind to the first-time poster!

More accurately, we’re now officially a national fascist socialist nation.

Just being kind I think. There is apparently some mercy out there. p.s. I hate it when I commit such errors. It’ll be long remembered.

An interesting thought on all this...do they know what to do with the data? Do they know how to ‘mine’ it? I am not so sure.

A huge scam that the IRS knows about and seems unable to stop is the bogus filing by prison inmates that results in their getting millions of dollars back in ‘refunds’. A few get caught. But the scam is so lucrative and the odds of getting caught are apparently low enough that it is worth the risk. And so what if a couple years are added to their sentance? No big deal. The IRS has not been able to stop this.

That all being said, the IRS has no business snooping into my business, nor anyone elses business with out cause, supportable by a judge issued search warrant. Just go to hell, IRS. Police your own first. And make sure all those non-filing Treasury and IRS people file...then do your audits on those returns.

Obama is filing with a bogus Social Security Number? Go after him.

The IRS is just another evil tool of foreign bankers who control the FED and our entire banking system.

—A huge scam that the IRS knows about and seems unable to stop is the bogus filing by prison inmates —

There are also the cases of individuals claiming dependents (nieces & nephews) not even living with them — and getting away with it. Some claimed dependents even living out of the country if I recall correctly.

You are so right, they need to clean up their own house before they begin digging into mine.
