How North Korea Could Destroy The United States
Investor's Business Daily ^ | April 5, 2013 | IBD EDITORIALS

National Security: The administration moves an advanced missile defense system to Guam because it knows a single low-yield nuke detonated at high altitude could send America back in time a hundred years.

The announcement Wednesday by the Defense Department that it would soon deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD), a missile defense system inherited from the Bush administration, to Guam underscores the seriousness of the threat from North Korea, whose actions, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel rightly said, "present a real and clear danger."

This move comes after the Obama administration reversed its previous scuttling of Bush administration plans to increase our ground-based interceptor force in Alaska and the deployment of two destroyers equipped with Aegis missile defense systems, the Decatur and the John McCain, to the region.

Some observers dismissed it as familiar bluster when North Korea's 28-year-old raging runt, Kim Jong-un, signed an order for North Korea's strategic rocket forces to be on standby to fire at U.S. targets in front of a map that included Austin, Texas, as a target.

But other observers are concerned that a specific target may not be what the possibly imploding North Korean regime may have in mind.

The three-stage missile North Korea launched last December that also orbited a "package," which experts say could be a test to orbit a nuclear weapon that then would be de-orbited on command anywhere over the U.S. and exploded at a high altitude, releasing an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). That would fry electronic circuitry and the nation's power grid.

Not to worry. Our sock-puppet resident of our White House has a full complement of unelected and unapproved puppeteers to guide our leader as he golfs around the country.

There actually is an exhibit of two bullets that met in mid-air at the Gettysburg museum.

Which makes me mystified about all the silly jokes and pictures posted on these threads about the nork threat. They already HAVE put 4 different packages in orbit. It would only take detonating ONE of these to end life as we know it in CONUS.

I’m way less worried about their detonating a conventional nuke via any sort of ‘icbm’ at an individual city.

EMP attack would get EVERY city simultaneously. With no radioactive no go zones for an invader to worry about.

We’d be worried about where to get a clean drink of water or our next meal. Or how to heat our homes in -20 weather without fireplaces and cords of wood stacked outside. The death toll from an EMP attack would be horrendous.

“National Security: The administration moves an advanced missile defense system to Guam because it knows a single low-yield nuke detonated at high altitude could send America back in time a hundred years.”

I don’t buy this at all. 50 years ago we had vacuum tubes and core memory which would not be susceptible to EMP. Yes, we could suffer major damage but we would recover in months.

Utilities would be up again quickly, and many of us replace our high tech stuff every year anyway.

I just posted this to another thread, but it applies here:

You can watch the track of the North Korean satellite on these two websites. The satellite’s code is KMS 3-2 (NORAD 39026).

KMS 3-2 Satellite details
http://www.n2yo.com/satellite/?s=39026

KMS 3-2 3D Online Satellite Tracking
http://www.satflare.com/track.asp?q=39026#TOP

It travels directly over the US often. This link will give you a list of future times:
http://www.n2yo.com/passes/?s=39026
Click the “Show all passes” button and then click the Map checkbox next to each one.

One has to wonder why the USA is acting on reactive actions. This should of be done long ago on preventative if not predictive actions. Shame on Obama!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Actually, I’m glad Obammie is not taking action. Do you trust his “reactive actions” Of course not. Just like the take down of OBL and the Benghazi murders - Barry will probably saunter in from the golf course and watch it all on the big screen. Then he’ll screw thing up.
I can live with that.
I am afraid that thw NORKS will drop a 6-10 Kt nuke on someone, Guam, Japan, Seoul, Dutch Harbor and that the haloed one will go on TV and say we can’t kill thousands or millions of innocent Koreans because of the action of their insane leaders and he will either seek a drone solution or do nothing.
The voice of reason.
It would be trivial for the Chinese or Russians to wait 6m after an EMP attack to just walk right in. Even in the guise of ‘international assistance’. Most of our cities would have been burned to the ground and most of the population would already either be dead or so weak from malnutrition they’d be little threat to an invader.
The norks already put 4 packages in orbit at the altitude necessary for an emp attack. Detonating just one of these at the right place could destroy everything we currently depend on for clean food, water, heat medical care and any sort of law enforcement.
IBD needs to do a little more research. While EMP is a problem if you have the right people with the right missiles with the right warheads, the little firecracker nuke attached to a Nork “Punkin’ Chunkin’” rocket isn’t going to send us back to the Stone Age.
I don’t think low-yield nukes will do it. I had understood that it took 1-10 MT explosions above the atmosphere to create widespread, damaging EMP. A few kt? Not so much.
“With no radioactive no go zones for an invader to worry about.”
Relax. There are hundreds of millions of firearms in this country. And how are these “invaders” going to get here? It’s not like they can just walk here... Any invaders would be dead before they advanced a mile inland.
That’s exactly right.
I haven’t had the guts to read “One Second After” but people who have read it say it’s damned scary.
With the Demon in our White House, we’re sitting ducks in more ways than one.
Some of it is plausible but Texans would fight as you don’t need electricity to fight Mexicans, Sam Houston didn’t.
The only immediate concern would be those on daily life sustaining medicines and drinking water. He was correct in assuming the “die off” on major urban areas would be over 90%.
