The global financial convulsion of 2007-2008 was followed by the resounding announcement of new priorities: international finance was to be better regulated and there was to be no mercy in the fight against tax havens. In short, we were to put an end to the black holes in a system that was wide open to abuse—at least if the very virtuous conclusions of the G20 held in London were to be believed. …

Revelations of individual cases, no matter how fascinating they are, should not be allowed to distract attention from the underlying problem: tax havens are a threat to democracy. They undermine the rule of law through their systematic use of secrecy. They are an absolute godsend to all kinds of fraudsters, and they promote the embezzlement of public funds in states undermined by misappropriation and corruption. In this world of apparently unlimited legal creativity, colossal sums are concealed inside shell companies, where rich individuals have stashed the equivalent of the combined GDP of the United States and Japan. …

Funny how the biggest enemy of democracy (of all forms) is putting out this propaganda against tax havens. The EU is all about taxation without representation.

No, electing a bunch of pseudo-intellectual crooks to rule you with an iron fist is killing your democracies.

But that’s what democracies always do, as history teaches.

That lying statement alone precludes my reading any further.

Well, that’s the thinking that the elite leaders of the EU want to push on their populace.

Yeah, it's the fault of all the people escaping to Galt’s Gulch. Never the fault of the leeches who keep piling on an emaciated milk cow.

Ah, finally, the thing which must happen before the left-O-dorks can complete their plan...all must be the same, else “unfair” competition will allow we creative types to escape their black hole like desire to suck all that is good into their cesspool of Obamalike slime.

Sooner or later folks, folks will have to say not only no, but “make our day” no.

If one seriously wants to place blame on the world's financial and taxation woes as it relates to democracy or anything else for that fact, start with those who own / run the worlds banking cartels. They own the politicians who write the rules to favor their owners. If true freedom is to ever be realized, it will require the elimination of the privately owned central banking systems. Our Founders new this but it has been lost to government corruption. End of story.

The problem with socialists and Marxists: Sooner or later you run out of other people’s money. When the OPM runs out, things get very interesting very quickly for that society. The politicians responsible might come to an unfortunate term limit.

Perhaps there is no French words that discriminate between tax havens as opposed to tax cheats. The first is legal and under the authority of the legislative body that wrote the tax code and the other is an illegal action forbidden by that same tax code.

I am sure if I examined Ms. Natalie Nougayrède’s tax returns I would find evidence of the former and not too surprisingly, several of the latter.
