North Korea seen moving mid-range missile to east coast: reports

SEOUL | Wed Apr 3, 2013 9:13pm EDT

(Reuters) - North Korea has moved what appears to be a mid-range Musudan missile to its east coast, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said on Thursday, quoting multiple government sources privy to intelligence from U.S. and South Korean authorities.

It was not clear if the missile was mounted with a warhead or whether the North was planning to fire it or was just putting it on display as a show of force, one South Korean government source was quoted as saying.

Expect incoming missile heading toward(or trying to head toward) West Coast. I think the Fat Boy has to do this if he intends to climb down safely after upping the political stake so high.

Hopefully, there would be accident at booster stage or mid-flight. This is the time for MD to show its worth.

A FReeper on another thread had an excellent idea, IMHO. The U.S. needs to tell the Young-un that if he fires a nuke at us, we’re going to fire nukes at Iran. LOL! Great idea.

Our President needs to declare - "Anything put on a pad will be wiped off the pad".

Yeah, like that is going to happen.

There has to be a couple of NK Generals standing there and wondering where exactly this goes. It’s ok to talk up stuff and act tough....if you are going beyond step one, and actually moving stuff to a usage-stage, they have to question the whole game being played out. All it takes is one idiot to think he got the launch order (by accident), and you get some minor war starting up and everyone wondering what the next step is.

Best guess ... This missile setup maybe is a ruse. No link or proof ... gut reaction only.

The Young-un Fat boy needs to be told that he’s been targeted.

This missile can barely reach Guam.

If the Norks launch at the US they will most likely be unsuccessful. What will be interesting is how Zero responds. Personally, based on a missile launch, I would lay waste to North Korea just north of the DMZ with tactical nuclear weapons as soon as one of their missiles was airborne. That takes out the Norks artillery aimed at South Korea and the north is no longer a threat. The Korean War would be over in about 20 minutes.

Tiger, are there any observations you can share? Domestic conversations, diplomatic conversations, perceived assessments, etc.

Right. We are past the stage one. If order comes down to generals to actually hit a big one, I am also wondering if they will oblige. This sentiment may run along the entire command chain. They would all know if they obey the order, things will got to hell. It can go either way: do it despite the misgiving or sit on it.

How many SM-3s are on our CGs and DDGs over in the Sea of Japan? How many have we sold to Japan so far for their Kongo class ships? Have all 4 of them received the BMD upgrades? You can bet Japan’s air and missile defense units are spun up now.

I am not a Korea expert, and have avoided discussions on Korea mostly.

I must say though, this is starting to escalate, from my viewpoint.

Just saying. Hope Kim knows what he is doing. The longer this goes on, the more chances someone will make a goof.

I think the more concerning issue is what to do with the millions of North Koreans now free to flood China and South Korea.

China only props up Lil’ Kim mostly for that reason. Imagine how messy the border region of Manchuria would get.

Evidently the Musudan has never even been tested, although one can infer its range and payload from predecessor designs (up to 4,000 km and up to one ton). Probably inertial navigation.

A thought to see if am understanding ... past stage one ... normally three acts and looks to be well into act two or stage two. Would this be the assessment you hold?
