Cancer clinics are turning away thousands of Medicare patients. Blame the sequester.

Cancer clinics across the country have begun turning away thousands of Medicare patients, blaming the sequester budget cuts.

Oncologists say the reduced funding, which took effect for Medicare on April 1, makes it impossible to administer expensive chemotherapy drugs while staying afloat financially.

Patients at these clinics would need to seek treatment elsewhere, such as at hospitals that might not have the capacity to accommodate them.

“If we treated the patients receiving the most expensive drugs, we’d be out of business in six months to a year,” said Jeff Vacirca, chief executive of North Shore Hematology Oncology Associates in New York. “The drugs we’re going to lose money on we’re not going to administer right now.”

After an emergency meeting Tuesday, Vacirca’s clinics decided that they would no longer see one-third of their 16,000 Medicare patients....

Death Panels are really the (unspoken) key to fixing SocSec and Medicare financials. Even one year sliced off the avg life expectancy makes a huge improvement.

Then let me make that decision that is enough is enough, along with a privatized SSI system and allow me to buy a policy post 65 and tell the legacy of Pres Johnson to fry ice.

To think one of these Obamaton Apparatchiks who probably have all the data on us to say ya or nay is everything against me being a man or women of liberty and understanding what our founders gave us.

The boys of Point Du Hoc must be rolling over in their graves for what this usurper has done to our country in the last 5 years..

It is not just because of “money” but because of OBAMA and how he has rejected all offers to change the formula by which the sequester funds are cut.

OBAMA is doing this for political theater, using eldelry cancer patients as props. A 2% cut in increased spending and this is how he acts?

If this happened to me I know where I would go to die. The steps of the US Capitol or chained to the WH fence while the obamas par-tay with Hollywooders.

But they are gullible enough to think Republicans want to throw them off a cliff.

At some point you have to stop feeling sorry...

“The care will likely be more expensive: One study from actuarial firm Milliman found that chemotherapy delivered in a hospital setting costs the federal government an average of $6,500 more annually than care delivered in a community clinic.”

It’s not about the money, it’s about the control. The commies want to shut down the small clinics in favor of the hospital. Hospital administrators can be readily controlled through state and federall bureaucrats and the administrators will have no trouble controlling the providers. Greater numbers of medicare patients will funneled into fewer facilities, and bureaucrats and administrators will be rewarded for keeping costs down.

0-care is so bad that it might collapse before it implodes the US economy; that’s why we are seeing Dim senators trying to repeal and delay some of the most onerous provisions such as the device tax.

I think a commercial should be made showing Obama livin it up and. The slow death of the cancer patients. There needs to be pushback.

Good point, if situations were reversed, the Rats wouldn't hesitate one second about doing it.

Pass time to get serious and start fighting like them.

Reduced funding for Medicare has nothing to do with sequester. Obamacare did cut Medcare funding. Democrats did not pass a doctor payment formula.
The GOP is awol. Rarely hear from Boehner and Senate Republicans Minority leaders.

Life is a terminal disease. Throwing good money at attempting to disprove that theory seems ludicrous.

You’re sick.

there are Californians still blaming the passage of property tax relief from a zillion years ago for the huge deficit.....

here in Washington state, we passed a $30 car tab initiative many yrs ago and STILL it gets blamed for every deficit in every dept...

this is the standard operating procedure....the citizens make a tiny little in road in taxes and it'll ripple like it was a tsunami...

I thin eventually more of the public will be placing the blame on everyone, Republican and Democrat, who is not addressing Medicare responsibly. Medicare could singlehandedly bankrupt the nation; we could be at the point where the gov’t feels pressured to neglect everything else in favor of spending money on Medicare and Social Security. Look at the tens of trillions of dollars that had at one point been promised for it. Eventually, we are gonna have to figure out where it is all going and what can be done to stop it from bankrupting our nation. Perhaps for starters asking those who can afford their own medical care to go ahead and do so. And maybe at some point more people might start wondering if frantically trying to keep everyone alive for 95 or 100 years or more is absolutely necessary. It would understandably be considered callous, but what happens when everyone from the richest down to the working class feels themselves buried by out of control tax burdens and finds out the education, national defense and the military, science, universities and everything else could get neglected because of Social Security and Medicare?

Let’s all hope that none of your loved ones (if you have any) look to you for emotional support when facing a health crisis.

As I understand it, those affected are on traditional, government-paid Medicare, not the privately-administered Medicare Advantage programs.

Not that they aren’t coming for the private Advantage plans eventually. If it works, these people want to destroy it.

Too bad the gutless Republicans can’t get out there with the megaphones that ObamaCare STOLE over 700 billion from Medicare and there is MORE to come from this disaster.

"who" permitted these procedures?.....drs know when some things are useless and a waste of time, but its up to the spouse or POA to determine care options....

so who permitted all these procedures on your FIL?...

you can't force care on someone if they are of sound mind or their poa refuses it....

it is sad...

I'm sad my mother had to die a slow death....I wish we had pushed her to get chemo and all that ...but it was her choice...

even though I am totally against prolonging life just because you can, there is also something called giving "hope" to the very ill....
