The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has responded to a letter dated November 13, 2012 from Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) regarding the agency's ammunition purchases. Sen. Coburn published the response on the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs website yesterday, April 1, 2013.

The response, dated February 4, 2013, says that DHS buys ammunition in bulk to "significantly lower costs."

“Big Sis hasn’t answered the question as to just why she needs that many rounds of ammunition. To keep us in line perhaps?”

Well, she actually has, if you read the article. You may not believe the answer, but you can’t say the government didn’t give it.

Just FYI, I spoke with two people over the weekend who are on a waiting list to get ammunition for their guns. Neither has had a problem before this.

They are proving it by buying in bulk when the market for bullets is through the roof.

DHS isn't buying bullets. Throwing them at a target is not very effective.

.

They're buying these thingies:

i dont think the majority will. i think enough will. the more screwed up they are the more they will. gays and lesbians in particular, power-mad ones will. the more problems and messed up they are the likelier they are to do it.

Well, I’ll just be glad when their 1.4 billion rounds are delivered, so the makers can start shipping to civilians in numbers again.

That’s why I was alluding to the fifteen year mark. By then, enough loyal Americans will have retired from the military and enough of their replacements, who may not be trained to be so loyal, will have filled the ranks.

Then it definitely could be a military that has stopped serving the people.

“Good luck to you, as an individual, trying to take on an instiutional military.”

The DHS is institutional military? Why don’t you list for us all the battle ribbons that DHS has been awarded?

You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

That is a plain lie. If the goal was to safe money, 3/4 of the buy would have been cheaper range ammo, not expensive HP ammo.

And please, don’t try to blow smoke up my a$$ with a fable like, “Nothing is too good for our feds. They always train on expensive HP ammo.” BS. They can make range ammo that handles and feels the same as the HP ammo....if the goal is cost saving.

Does anyone know whom the feds are buying the ammo from?

Is it the same manufacturers that can’t keep a spare box of cartridges, from .22 shorts to 45.70s, on the shelves from Seattle to Miami?

I’ve got no beef with ammo manufacturers. But I have to wonder if the “bulk price” sales to the feds are worth leaving their retail markets AND their longtime customers high and dry.

Can’t they turn down the government sales just like some of the gun manufacturers are doing?

I'd like to know where they plan on storing all of this?

Heheh...and a whole bunch of other citizens, also.

It took the DHS over a week to realize they purchased vast quantities of bullets to save money? This answer stinks to high heaven and was devised solely to placate/silence conservatives.

The reason given by the DHS should raise suspicions even further.

Well, IIRC, the fedzilla paid ~20 billion to rent properties not occupied, in fiscal year 2009. There are probably lots of ‘empty’ warehouse where these rounds could be stored, but the best guess would be they’re stored near the well guarded, ‘island fortresses’ to which the oligarchs will retreat after they have collapsed the Republic.

OH LIKE CUTTING COSTS of well the daughters going to the Bahamas and then off to Aspen and that goes with their 4 vacations in 4 months and how many friends and family went with them?

Then ROTC gets new uniforms, TSA gets new uniforms.

AND THE MEDIA STAY SILENT YET AGAIN.

It doesn’t significantly lower costs. In fact, the costs for the government per unit is negligable compared to what anyone else is paying.

You are storming up for a different purpose and will continue to add in five year contracts in the hopes of draining the market.

Your costs are comparable to buying Systimax cat6 cable from Anixeter a few times a month as opposed to someone orders in large quantities.

There isn’t much difference and the only real difference is in labor to install a common part.

The ammunition you are ordering is extremely common and the costs about ye same as opposed vanity or special rounds like .50 cal, .48 cal, 6mm cal, etc.. On those rounds you can get a significant price reduction as you are the largest purchase of those rounds.
