U.N. passes sweeping international arms regulation viewed by some as Second Amendment override

The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday signed off on a sweeping, first-of-its-kind treaty to regulate the international arms trade, brushing aside worries from U.S. gun rights advocates that the pact could lead to a national firearms registry and disrupt the American gun market.

The long-debated U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) requires countries to regulate and control the export of weaponry such as battle tanks, combat vehicles and aircraft and attack helicopters, as well as parts and ammunition for such weapons. It also provides that signatories will not violate arms embargoes, international treaties regarding illicit trafficking, or sell weaponry to a countries for genocide, crimes against humanity or other war crimes.

With the Obama administration supporting the final treaty draft, the General Assembly vote was 154 to 3, with 23 abstentions.

Here it comes. The President will sign it and expect the Senate to do the same in kind. He will shame them and blame them for violence around the world if they don’t.

It will never affect my gun ownership in any way. They can stick their own guns up their asses and pull the triggers for all I care.

Don’t worry: there are a lot of Democrats in the Senate in tough re-election campaigns. It’ll never pass the Senate. :)

“It will never affect my gun ownership in any way. “

As long as you don’t plan on getting a new one, that is probably true, but you may not be able to get the ammo you want.

C’n I come too? I have some ordnance.

Somebody should tell the NINC (narcissist in chief) that no treaty supersedes the Constitution, and if he tries to enforce an unconstitutional treaty, it would be legal grounds for “replacing an oppressive government.”

Although, I do believe that he overstepped that boundary a long time ago.

Under Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, Senate ratification of a treaty requires that "two thirds of the Senators present concur."

If the Senate ratifies the U.N. arms control treaty, we will have lots of RINOs to blame along with Democrats. I seem to recall that some of the former as well as some of the latter are up for reelection next year.

As a child, I never imagined that I could end up as a political prisoner, Gulag-style, right here at home.

Now I can see it happening to me. But not without a fight.

Presumably the US voted FOR it too, instead of vetoing it.

You can thank Obama. He is going to get your guns one way or another.

“The U.S., however, indicated last week that it would vote for the treaty despite opposition from the pro-gun group, Reuters reported.

The National Rifle Association has portrayed the draft treaty as a threat to gun ownership rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and has lobbied to defeat the proposal at the U.N. The NRA last week praised the Senate’s passage of an amendment to the Democratic budget proposal that would prevent the U.S. from entering into the treaty.”
