The New York Times ^ | April 1, 2013 | Justin Gillis

Posted on 04/01/2013 7:01:59 PM PDT by Rocky

James E. Hansen, the climate scientist who issued the clearest warning of the 20th century about the dangers of global warming, will retire from NASA this week, giving himself more freedom to pursue political and legal efforts to limit greenhouse gases. Science Times Podcast

Marveling at the efficiency of a killer in the skies and NASA’s household name on climate change takes his fight for the earth’s future into retirement.

His departure, after a 46-year career at the space agency’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in Manhattan, will deprive federally sponsored climate research of its best-known public figure.

Another sequester victim. I don’t know what took NASA so long but I’ll take it.

Not exactly early retirement. The guy is 72, and has worked for NASA almost 50 years. I imagine his gubbermint pay and retirement funds have added up to quite a lot. Plus, he gets big speaking fees, I’m sure.

NASA was founded in 1958, so he’s been there almost from the beginning.

No way this idiot would have lasted in the private sector. Layers of government protected him. Now he’ll get an undeserved government pension and go work for Al-Jazeera.

I hope the ghost of Werner Von Braun haunts this lowlife until he breathes his last molecule of oxygen. What a waste of good air.

I wonder if he ever did anything useful for them.

What a waste of good air.

You're right about that. I guess all the recent articles about how CAGW was overblown may have undercut his support there.

"Federally sponsored" is commie lib newspeak for "taxpayer dollars".

Bovine Feces New York Times! James Hansen is a fraud.

The real climate prediction expert is former NASA rocket scientist John L Casey. After 25 years and tens of billions of dollars spent by NASA and the US government, John Casey has done the studies and finally surmised the real reason for changes in the climate is sun activity. And we are currently starting a 20 year cooling trend. And there isn’t a damn thing that humans on Earth can do about it and humans didn’t cause it.

46 years in gub'mnt ~ the federal gub'mnt ~ gets you a max of 26 days annual leave, and 10 days sick leave.

Odds are good Hansen stuck with the old FERS system so the max on that retirement was hit at 40 years, and that pays 80% of your high three.

Not a bad retirement at all but folks it ain't a golden parachute either!
