The New York Times ^ | April 1, 2013 | Justin Gillis

James E. Hansen, the climate scientist who issued the clearest warning of the 20th century about the dangers of global warming, will retire from NASA this week, giving himself more freedom to pursue political and legal efforts to limit greenhouse gases. Science Times Podcast

Marveling at the efficiency of a killer in the skies and NASA’s household name on climate change takes his fight for the earth’s future into retirement.

His departure, after a 46-year career at the space agency’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in Manhattan, will deprive federally sponsored climate research of its best-known public figure.

I also hope this is not an April Fool's joke.
His departure is about 43 years too late.

46 years at a government job? He should be a poster boy for the difficulty of firing the worse than incompetent. He actually worked hard at making the lives of most Americans worse than it could have been otherwise.

Worth a double post:

This is a relatively accurate definition of the word maverick as used by the MSM. Remember now, they change the meanings of words with newspeak. A government employee who acts and lies as if they are going up against the government, but in reality they are just brainwashing a group of citizens into a position the government wants them to occupy.

NASA supported and encouraged this "scientist" for all these years while he distorted facts to suit his own personal crusade. It is a blight on that organization. I deeply resent that my tax dollars went toward his financial support. If I were elected President, I would make it one of my aims to find out who in NASA has been protecting Hansen all of these years, and make sure their careers were terminated immediately.

"Hansen has been wrong about everything he said"

Actually, early in his career, when he was researching global COOLING, he had a few useful insights.

Hanson will slide into full senility, chew his fingernails off and fill the vacuum in his brain with dust mites and CO2 exhaust. Ten years from now, he’ll be found dead in a small Hartford bungalow with news clippings stacked to the ceiling, dirty dishes and dogs eating his face off.

Yup. And the press gives him “hero” status because he crashed 2 planes while training and managing to get shot down (hell, I could do that). He has an over blown opinion of his opinions and himself. It is time (past time) for him to go away.
