Pastor slams religious right at Obamas' Easter service
CBS News ^ | March 31, 2013

Posted on 03/31/2013 8:59:59 PM PDT by Rennes Templar

President Obama attended an Easter service with his family today at St. John's Episcopal Church near the White House, and the Pastor delivering the sermon at the service veered into political territory when he slammed the religious right for living in the past and lionizing "the good old days."

The sermon at the service, delivered by Dr. Luis Leon, an Episcopal pastor who delivered the benediction at Mr. Obama's second inauguration, took a turn for the political when the pastor decried those who wax nostalgic about the way things once were.

"I hear all the time the expression 'the good old days'," Leon said. "Well, the good old days, we forget they have been good for some, but they weren't good for everybody.

"You can't go back, you can't live in the past," he added. "It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling people back...for Blacks to be back in the back of the bus, for women to be back in the kitchen, for gays to be in the closet and for immigrants to be on their side of the border."

"What you and I understand," Leon said, "is that when Jesus says, 'You can't hang onto me,' he says, 'You know it's not about the past, it's not about the before, it's not about the way things were, but about the way things can be in the now.'"

Luis asked his audience, "Will you accept the invitation from our Gospel today to see things with Easter vision, recognizing reality in a different and new and wonderful way?"

"Today the choice is yours," he said. "Jesus Christ is risen today - that's the proclamation. May God bless you with Easter vision now and forever. Amen."

We do think about the future and the way things are today when we reninimiss about the past.

There are many quality about the past that are in fact far better than the present or prospective future as things are now. Such as families, virtues, liberty, and sold economic growth.

It is true that the past also held some negative things, but it is not to them negative things that we look but to the positive in dreaming of the future.

Learn about the past Rev if you ever do find you have a serous desire for the future. For Idle thoughts do not build civilizations. Time tested plans and actions form the foundation of the future.

“The religious right wants blacks in the back of the bus? What an idiot!!”

Someone should remind this Pastor of the biblical laws against baring false witness against your neighbor.

We have no such desire and he knows it.

Unfortunately, a few do think that way. Google “kinism.” Thank God they are a small and dwindling number. Racial bigotry is not taught in the Bible. Such people need to be driven out of conservative Christian circles because they give the vast majority of us a bad name.

It is your side that keeps them subjugated into their own class boxes. Your side is creating a caste system to rival any we’ve seen before.”

Amen!

Our conservative colors are supposed to “red, white and blue,” not “white versus black.” We forget that at our peril.

90% of the people listening to that service will believe it.

And then “they” wonder why attendance at “their” church is down? Maybe like most other things, those in the know are far better informed, and perceptive, than those who profess to know.

Seems the good “pastor” should have been watching The Bible to learn something about the meaning of Easter because we certainly now know he is not reading it.

obam goes to church, what, once or twice a year?....and THIS is what he decides to attend?

It’s unfathomable to think a service, especially Easter, could encompass such teachings.

That obama chose such a church is further evidence (like anyone needed any) of his lack of morality, character, etc.

Geeze.

If this “sermon” is what he considers fit for public consumption, imagine the fiery hate he spews when it’s just him and his fellow Episcopagan travelers behind closed doors.

On the day that OTHER Christian churches look back nearly 2000 years he says essentially “stop looking back to the good ol’ days”.

As F'in Mexico why WE can't freely go on "their side of the border"?

Double standard much, f'in commies.

"Today the choice is yours," he said. "Jesus Christ is risen today - that's the proclamation. May God bless you with Easter vision now and forever. Amen."

A real Easter message would be that no matter how bad things may be here, WE are SAVED by Jesus' sacrifice and reborn in ETERNAL LIFE.

The Democrat moderators asked GOP candidates about evolution and other questions of faith in the debates. Why wasn't Barack Hussein Obama asked if HE believes that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and walked among men after His crucifixion? Some "Christian".

The religious right wants blacks in the back of the bus? What an idiot!!

Democrats want black and hispanic people ON the bus whereas Republicans want all Americans to have the freedom and ability to buy their OWN vehicles and afford to drive them on low cost gasoline.

NOW who's subjugating the lower classes?

If the Left’s gonna trot out “the good ol’ days weren’t so good” mem then are they gonna stop bitching and moaning about the monopoly of the media (including Clear Channel’s ownership of stations)? Are they gonna give up on complaining about the way scientists are mucking about with crops? Are they gonna stopp kvetching about changing temperatures???

Y’know there was an ICE AGE once!

Democrats want black and hispanic people ON the bus...or train, unarmed, unprotected, getting terrorized, murdered and raped by ghetto-rat "youths".

Obama’s making sure their daughters are fully indoctrinated to their radical thinking and views much like radical Islamists teach their children to hate America at a early age.

Or Obama is about to sign a executive order banning conservatives from going to church. *sarcasm* (?)

I posted this on one of the other threads about this story. Something about this just doesn’t pass the smell test. Luis is my boss’s foster brother. This is the church that President Bush attended when he was in office, and Luis had always been supportive of him in the past. This story just doesn’t make sense to me given what I know.
