Jeb Bush: Entitlement System Will Collapse If We Don’t Act Now (But did he tell his brother this?)
newsmax ^ | 3/31/13 | Jim Meyers and John Bachman

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has written the cover story for the April edition of Newsmax magazine, offering an optimistic view of America’s future — and straight talk about its problems — with the resounding message: “Growth is the answer” to our nagging economic woes.

And the leading Republican sat down with Newsmax for a wide-ranging interview elaborating on a number of topics he discusses in his magazine feature, arguing that America can be great again if we open up the doors to economic opportunity.

Bush, who served two terms as Florida’s governor, has earned a nationwide reputation for reform proposals in the fields of education and immigration. He is founder and chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, author of the new book “The Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution” — co-written with constitutional law expert Clint Bolick — and is considered a strong contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016.

Bush’s Newsmax magazine piece stresses the need for economic growth to deal with the nation’s debt and deficit problems.

Here's a Bush preaching to us, but I do not recall him publicly chastising his brother when he dreamed up a prescription drug entitlement alongside a grinning Teddy Kennedy.

NO MORE BUSHES. Go away Jeb

But Jeb, you make that sound like a bad thing.

STHU Jeb.

Is Medicare Part D one of those “unsustainable” entitlements? Thank you Dubya. I sure wish Jeb would learn why Keynesian economics is morally corrupt and economically so wrong and dangerous. He ought to get a quick lesson from some competent Austrians. (see the free lectures and e-books at mises.org!)

It’s not just the “entitlement system” that is about to collapse. Wait until the ‘RATS and RINOs put 30 million illegals on the FreeWay to “Citizenship”. The whole dang country is going to collapse.

The only Bush I want to hear about, is the one that was burning. Just go away, Jeb

This from a guy who wants to add 35 million illegals to the welfare rolls later this year through amnesty. With Republicans like this, who needs Democrats?

The whole Growth ideal was how we got into the mess in the first place. We had won the Cold War. Growth was no longer needed. Yet the crooks who run DC wanted more.

The only one’s getting the big bloated entitlements are the government employees.

Let it collapse.

I agree, stay away all you Bushes and anyone associated with them.

I had such high hopes in 2000 when Rush Limbaugh introduced Bush and Cheney when I was working for Halliburton.

Sheesh, both of them were duds, nothing more but RINO duds. I don’t think that there is a true conservative in politics today.

And the leading Republican

By definition, one has to have followers in order to be a leader. Who exactly are Jeb's supporters?

No, he wouldn’t change it. Frankly, I am starting to think no politician would because of fear of the riots and chaos that would occur if people were denied benefits.

I am also starting to suspect that “Growth” is a code word for unchecked immigration. Except that the thing that would most grow is the Entitlement system as we add tens of millions of more clients.

Nope. He let Terri Schiavo be slowly murdered in his state. He is dead to me.

I know Part D was a bad idea, but GW did try to institute a plan that would allow future recipients of Social Security to invest a small portion of their FICA taxes in personal accounts. The Democrats went ballistic and it did not pass. Had that happened, Social Security would be in much better shape than it is now.

I LOVE Free Republic, but I hate these threads that bash George Bush. He was not perfect, but at least I had no doubt that he loved this country and wanted the best for it - unlike Obama whose every move has been and will be to destroy America. I agree that Jeb should not even think about running for POTUS, but I would much rather have GW and Laura in the WH than the two interlopers who currently reside there!

You understate the legacy of GWB: Medicare Part D was the largest entitlement program since the LBJ Great Society era.

The ramp up in SS disability and food stamps also started with the GWB administration.

Professional politicos like Karl Rove promised it would create a permanent Republican majority.
