The Eiffel Tower was evacuated tonight following a telephoned terrorist bomb warning.

Some 1,500 people, including tourists and staff, were escorted out of France's most famous landmark shortly after 7.30pm.

It follows threats from Al-Qaeda pledging 'revenge' for the French intervention in the African state of Mali to fight Islamic terrorists.

Wow, and to think, 2 days ago everything was fine when I went up the tower.

Hmmm, seems the war on terror isn't really over.

France should’ve listened to Brigitte Bardot, who was against so many Muslim’s coming into their country.

Bastards.

1500, isn’t that a lot of people for the Eiffel Tower?

If you are just talking about the Tower, maybe. The very near surrounding venues of shops and concessions, I would say no.

For 6 am, it is. Right now, it is just after midnight eastern--France is 6 hours ahead of us.

When, exactly, did this evacuation take place?

Has there even been a “bomb warning” called in before a real bombing?

Except for the few occassions when they asked for money, these calls seem to always be fake.

Once people realize that Muslims really are trying to conquer and impose Sharia Law, it will be too late.

Did they evacuate it during Air France Flight 896?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_Flight_8969

Air France Flight 8969 was an Air France flight that was hijacked on 24 December 1994 by the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) at Algiers, where they killed three passengers, with the intention to blow up the plane over the Eiffel Tower in Paris. When the aircraft reached Marseille, the GIGN, an intervention group of the French National Gendarmerie, stormed the plane and killed all four hijackers. The GIA’s plan appeared to foreshadow the September 11 attacks.[1] Thomas Sancton of TIME magazine described the event as “one of the most successful anti-terrorist operations in history.”[2]

A former militant group leader admitted that the men had planned to detonate the aircraft over the Eiffel Tower. The militant group never again attempted this plot. Pasqua said that if the militants crashed an aircraft on the Eiffel Tower or the Élysées Palace they would have committed what they would believe to be “an extraordinary feat.”[3]

I’m pretty sure Superman would take care of this, freeing General Zodd and his cohorts from the Phantom Zone

Yes, the Basque separatists in Spain used to do that - they were the only terrorist organization that did that on a regular basis to try to avoid taking life (and leaving it on the Spanish authorities if they didn’t evacuate.)

Did that once around 25 years ago... I figure it hasn't changed much, so why go back?

It's likely the grounds around it. Beautiful area.

Yes I am!!!! I’m sorry. I’ve been going through a smack down, in which I asked for.

I gave my life over to Him because I could not control myself or circumstances. I expected “rainbows and unicorns”......what a fool I was!

Things are starting to settle. The more days I give unto Him, the better.

Sorry FRiend (((hug))). Please forgive me?

I was in Paris three years ago and in each corner of plaza at the Tower they had large military transports. I got a peek inside of one when a soldier was exiting and is was loaded with a lot of anti-tank shoulder fired munitions along with rotating cylinder grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. They looked like they were expecting vehicle assaults. They were not messing around.
