The Secret Republican Plan to Repeal 'Obamacare'
National Journal ^ | 3/28/13 | Chris Frates

Posted on 03/28/2013 6:10:14 PM PDT by SoFloFreeper

A few minutes after the Supreme Court issued its landmark decision upholding President Obama’s health care law last summer, a senior adviser to Mitch McConnell walked into the Senate Republican leader’s office to gauge his reaction.

McConnell was clearly disappointed, and for good reason. For many conservatives, the decision was the death knell in a three-year fight to defeat reforms that epitomized everything they thought was wrong with Obama’s governing philosophy. But where some saw finality, McConnell saw opportunity — and still does.

Sitting at his desk a stone’s throw from the Senate chamber, McConnell turned to the aide and, with characteristic directness, said: “This decision is too cute. But I think we got something with this tax issue.”

He was referring to the court’s ruling that the heart of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, the so-called individual mandate that requires everyone in the country to buy health insurance or pay a penalty, was a tax. And while McConnell thought calling the mandate a tax was “a rather creative way” to uphold the law, it also opened a new front in his battle to repeal it.

McConnell, a master of byzantine Senate procedure, immediately realized that, as a tax, the individual mandate would be subject to the budget reconciliation process, which exempted it from the filibuster. In other words, McConnell had just struck upon how to repeal Obamacare with a simple majority vote.

You are correct. The poster you’ve addressed is fanatical regarding the subject. No use of logic, however forceful, will convince a fanatic against his or her delusion.

We have to be wise as serpents regarding our dealings with the weasels in the liberal world. Some of us realize that. Others do not.

For instance, 40 percent of the public still believes the law includes “death panels.”

That's a bizarre thing to say. Of course it includes death panels. Committees which will determine what medical procedures can be used, and who can qualify to receive those procedures. Our health is in the hands of unelected, cold-hearted, influence-peddling bureaucrats.

Uh, I think "ravening wolves" might be a better comparision of the VILE left, than "the weasels in the liberal world."
Just a suggestion.

Now, let me show you something. In short, the GOP is full of VILE members who'll sell us out in a heartbeat!

Defunding will not be enough...you need to replace it with something like tort reform, tax credits, HSA provisions all of which you will not get with a dem controlled senate. I’d rather win with a longer term strategy than with a Pyrrhic victory just so I can feel good for a day.

Excuse the expression, but Bullsh!t.

Somebody needs to get and grab some gonads and make this crap go away.

False...you remove all the funding while the laws remain in place and you end up with no recovery in private healthcare either. Not too brainy.

False......get rid of the whole thing and you don't have to nibble around the edges.

Anybody with gonads can see that.

So why would you think defunding it would get rid
of the law?
You need a few brains not just gonads.

You need a few brains not just gonads.

The people who theoretically had "brains" and practically no gonads got us all into this mess.

Now you want to "out-think" the people with brains, but no gonads?

Give me a break.

I noticed you still haven’t provided an answer to what to do when the health law is still in place after you’ve defunded it. Can your gonads come up with an answer?

Sen Ted Cruz ( R TX) voted Nay “cloture”

Thank you.

A cloture vote, which requires sixty Yeas to pass, is often the true test of a Senator's opposition to a bill, since many Senators are "allowed" to vote Nay on the bill itself, which only require fifty Yeas plus the Vice President to pass, to give themselves political cover.

When you want to research a certain vote, find the bill's designation letters and number, and the date it was voted on,
then use that to find the recorded vote, and then look for the member you want to know how voted.

I like "Dogpile.com" search engine because it doesn't bury you with too many garbage links.

No.

The Republicans have got to stand and face Obama eventually. If the current leadership continually bends over and continues to kiss Obama’s butt and give him what he wants, soon they will have NO PARTY to lead.

Grow a backbone and close down the government.

“”Obamacare expenditures are built into the Current Services Baseline which, if there is no agreed upon Congressional budget, automatically funds expenditures. > So long as the Senate and the House do not agree upon a budget — and the appropriation bills are not signed by the President — Obamacare is on autopilot and there is little the House can do about it.

Other than shut down the government — which the ‘Pubbies are not prepared to do — because they can’t trust the President to manage the money and not default on our debt (or cease writing Social Security checks or cease paying the military their wages, etc.)

The fact that the Democrat Senate has not brought forth a budget for four years is not by accident. They knew they would lose the House in 2010, so they set up a circumstance that essentially chained the Republican House to the status quo ante.””

The Republicans are gonna have to learn to lead or get out the way. All the things you wrote may or may not but true but that doesn’t matter. The law means absolutely nothing to the communist, liberals, progressives and democrats. They just ignore the law of the land and pass what they want and that’s what they did with obamacare.

Obamacare is illegal because it is unconstitutional but that doesn’t matter to these people. They went out and either forced, bribed, threatened, or bought off a corrupt and treasonous sitting supreme court judge. What did the Republican party do....? Absolutely nothing....! They rolled over like a bunch of whipped puppies and did nothing.

Where were the calls from any Republican asking for an investigation into the treasonous acts of justice Roberts and the others on the court that joined him in breaking the supreme law of the land? Not one stepped forward and asked for the resignation of any of those corrupt judges.

What has the leadership and the Republican party done since this “unconstitutional” mandate has been passed and rule upon...? They have done nothing but whine, moan, wring their hands and say we can doe nothing. The law is the law they say.

Well I say we gotta learn to play to win as the communist in the WH do along with their comrades in the democratic party.

Just ignore obamacare, don’t implement it. That’s what obama and the democrats do when the constitution gets in the way. Lets just pretend obamacare doesn’t exist, don’t fund it, ignore the budget that was past that contained obamacare as if it never happened. Let’s play their game. If they wana be a nation of laws, let them obey them. If they can ignore the law and pass and unconstitutional health mandate, we can just ignore it.

The Republican House ought to produce its on budget, bring it forth, present it to the American people. Let if totally ignore and defund obamacare and let the communist in the White House and the congress scream. And, when they do, just ignore them. That’s what they do to Republicans and the American people. The just ignore us, pass what they want, and then find and handful of corrupt treasonous judges to go along with them. We can do the same. If they want to be a nation of laws, then teach them they will not get away with ignoring it. If the wanna be a nation with laws based on men, then let them know we can play the game as good as they can.
