Squatters, Looters Overrun Sandy-Ravaged Staten Island Communities
CBS New York ^ | 3/27/13

Staten Island residents already suffering from the ravages of Hurricane Sandy say they are now seeing their neighborhoods infiltrated by squatters and looters.

As CBS 2’s Dick Brennan reported Wednesday, when darkness sets in on Wavecrest Street in New Dorp, people say squatters make their move – crashing empty homes wrecked by the hurricane.

Title correction. “King hussein voters take over Staten Island homes”.(or were they already there?) No problem here. Move along. And to think, most of these areas in the northeast are the cradle of our republic. Sad state of affairs.

“What’s it been 5 months now since Sandy?”

There isn’t money to fix things, and in much of the northeast little incentive to; both NJ & NY recently lost electoral votes because the “legal” population is shrinking. If the illegals want to fix it let them pay for it.

NYC was British-held throughout the war (unlike Boston, which was untenable for them); now these states are populated with few people that know of the founding of the republic. They just wants to get paid!

Shoot a couple. Give your neighborhood “that” reputation.

And when Katrina happened, within a week the media and karaoke performers like Kanye West were immediately calling Bush a racist, that he does’t like black people etc etc even though more money was sent down there than money sent to New York city after Sept. 11th 2001. A friend of my father lost his house down there and has been living in hotels ever since and is now broke, and to date he says he hasn’t seen one single solitary cent from anybody despite there supposedly being a “benefit concert” held last year. Where are the calls of “racism”? Where are the George Clooney telethons? Where is Brad Pitt and his house building company? Where is Sean Penn and his photo-ops of him cleaning up the area? Just proves to me all these celebs had only one agenda: To make Bush look as bad as possible. When it’s a Dem POTUS though they are all magically absent.

That is interesting considering the major media is based there in New York. This mess is in their back yard and yet they don’t notice it. But like you mentioned in New Orleans, the media types spent an inordinate time on the struggles of the people there and how the fedgov must pump money in to NOLA to get it back up and running.

Guess since it doesn’t affect them, it is not a problem.

Getting there would require at least a subway ride and a ferry ride. You can't expect them to go to that much effort when they can do stories from the AP wire, do you?

That was the case in parts of NJ...

I didn't think I needed the < /sarc > tag; I know that a lot of the damage was to home owned by middle class working folks, both at the shore and on the rivers and bays.

Why is your dads freind still waiting for help. If he could afford to live in hotels. I would guess that he could afford a cheaper apartment.

There is more to the story.

You have to understand that this is a working-class area of Staten Island. Their House representative is a Republican, as is the borough president. Nanny Bloomberg and the elitist blue-staters at the NYTimes couldn’t care less about these people. I feel bad for these people, because these aren’t the “you get what you deserve for voting Democrat” types. On the contrary - the looting and squatting is probably being done by Obama voters.

Shoot a couple. Give your neighborhood “that” reputation.

If a couple of looters got shot, and the neighborhood attitude was "Nope, didn't see nothing", I guarantee you that there would be a large police presence.

Sad for sure. My family came from the Hudson/Athens area of NY and had been there since the mid/late 1600’s. Glad my dad left the area when he became a naval officer. Gave me a wider knowledge of the world getting to move around so much. No home town roots though. Sadly, the high density population centers control what goes on just by sheer weight of numbers. Kind of like here in NV. Vegas and all it’s union power make it tough for the rest of the state to have it’s voice heard.

Ok New Yorkers, sooner or later you are going to have to revolt.

With what?...Janet Napolitano’s weapon of choice is a scissors.

New Yorkers have only themselves to blame, voting Democrat every election and lovin’ Big Government.

Sorry; a lot of people (not just on the left) are taking that position - not so much out of class envy as due to the near-bankruptcy of the states up here.

Well apts are not cheap in NY but yes they would be a hell of a lot cheaper than hotels. I have to ask him that. Maybe because he would have to sign a lease and all that.

This is what happens when you live in a city where the mayor's main concerns include banning smoking, restricting firearm ownership and prohibiting soft drinks larger than 16 ounces.

For all intents and purposes, history has run its course in New York City and there isn't any future there for independent people with a modicum of ambition.

Maybe they should send a strongly-worded letter to Governor Cuomo... He’ll ban high-capacity looting...they can only carry off 7 items at a time.

Ya get what ya vote for.

And $50 Billion of borrowed money that was supposed to fix this.

Not to worry, Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Cuomo have the situation under control.

NYC and NY state will set up special areas to give Food Stamps, Welfare Checks, and other goodies to the looters/squatters.
