My Train Wreck Conversion (Lesbian turns away, chooses Christianity)
Christianity Today ^ | 2/7/2013 | Rosaria Champagne Butterfield

As a leftist lesbian professor, I despised Christians. Then I somehow became one.

The word Jesus stuck in my throat like an elephant tusk; no matter how hard I choked, I couldn't hack it out. Those who professed the name commanded my pity and wrath. As a university professor, I tired of students who seemed to believe that "knowing Jesus" meant knowing little else. Christians in particular were bad readers, always seizing opportunities to insert a Bible verse into a conversation with the same point as a punctuation mark: to end it rather than deepen it.

That's from the poem "The Gate of the Year" - King George VI read it during his 1939 Christmas broadcast, and it became a sort of catchword for the British during WWII.

It's even been set to music, SATB and organ, sang it in church years ago.

And you're right, it's true.

Amen to that!

After attending Mass this morning my sister and I were talking over coffee about the woman caught in adultrey. She was forgiven for her sins, but told not to sin again. That message doesn't always get out there.

I am so relieved about your wife's surgery. Blessings to you during this Holy Week!

Absolutely.

The press always wants to malign Christians as incapable of forgiving the sinner. How wrong that is. We condemn the sin but not the sinner.

My father and mother were instrumental in developing the faith our family of ten.

Dad, who flew combat missions over Japan in B-29's, had an intensely deep faith. It carried him through wartime and beyond.

I spent 4 years serving in the U.S. Air Force, and felt honored to attend Mass on base. Knew some great chaplains who were inspiring to this poor airman. I don't know if its the same today in the service. I hope it is.

Thank you for your service! Semper Fi!

As to you, my friend.

Dad passed away back in 1981, and mom two years ago this April. We were blessed to have such wonderful parents.

I will keep your wife and family in my prayers during this Holy Week.

The “sexual revolution” of the 60’s with all the “free love” and promiscuity; what a terrific way at that time to exquisitely PUNISH parents. Now, it’s been refined; to the PERFECTLY EXQUISITE nasty sexual habit that conjures up mental pictures of warped and painful sexual practice that demands parades and acting out. Parents like the Republican Senator who recently “came out” in support of “gay” marriage in tandem with the “ME,TOO!” declaration of Hillarious Clinton aren’t all that convincing that they’re all that delighted. TIRESOME!! If I turn the tv off, for me most of it does not exist.

Thank You. I felt blessed to have then Clovis C. Coffman ( Buck) CPT USMC, Force Recon as a friend in my IOAC class (late 72-73 at Benning). Buck was a Force Recon legend. He was a mustang. Buch had 26 ribbons in 1973. That Navy Cross was earned. I admired Gunney.

“Pat Robertson’s quip from the 1992 Republican National Convention pushed me over the edge: “Feminism,” he sneered, “encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.”

Except for maybe the witchcraft I cant find anything wrong with the statement.

“Then, one ordinary day, I came to Jesus, openhanded and naked.”

Did Jesus wince?

Despite being a tenured professor that espouses critical thinking as a key academic skill...

You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of tenured professors who even know critical thinking exists, let alone what it is and how to use it.

Critical thinking is being removed from the curriculum of government schools. Critical thinkers tend to NOT be go along to get along type people. And we can't have that!

"Fortunately most Christians are loving and forgiving"

Every Christian, everyone who believes in God, in whatever way they choose to express it, should read this brave woman's story.

Then they should ask themselves:

What would have happened, if, at any point in her journey, the Christians she met had been judgmental, and not been loving towards her?

What if they were the type of Christian's who go to the Church every Sunday, and congratulate themselves for doing so?

What if the people she first met were the type who sit in the front of the Church, and thank God that they are not like the sinners in the back?

What would have happened to her, if she had encountered these so-called Christians?

Thank God that she did not run into these types of believers.

Her story is a wonderful illustration of how the Lord works in a person's life, and THROUGH members of His flock, to bring that person to Him.

We ALL have" our former lives lurking in the edges of our hearts, shiny and still like knives." We must not ever forget how much we need the Lord's mercy, and to be thankful for it.

This woman's story should be required reading for every believer.

Amen!

We as Christians are mindful of the sufferings that Christ went through during this Holy of Holy weeks. Our Lord continued to forgive those who would persecute him.

Do we not have a better example to follow than that?

God Bless you during this Holy Week, and have a blessed Easter.
