"Is citizenship required to legally purchase a lottery ticket in NJ?"

I can't imagine that.

I go to Spain, Mexico and other places that have national lotteries.

I don't play lotteries, but I know that I'm welcome to do so, am approached to buy tickets in "El Gordo" and other games all the time, and I know everyone in these countries would expect that I be honored and protected as a winner.

Same here in my home state. We'll sell you lottery tickets regardless of where you're from and we run an honest game. Plus, we'll sell you cigarettes and beer for less than you would pay anywhere else in New England. With no bottle deposit. That's right. No container deposit at all.

Wait, it gets even better.

There's no state income tax. None at all on earned income.

There's no sales tax either. No sales tax and free two day shipping if you have Amazon Prime.

I crossed the border at St. Albans on my way back into the States last summer and the customs guy asked,

"What are you bringing back from Canada?"

"Nothing." I replied.

"You spent two months in Canada and you bought nothing to bring home?"

"Yeah, that's right. I live in tax free New Hampshire and have Amazon Prime. What the hell do I want to bring back from Canada?"

Oh, I guess here's the kicker.

You can hunt on Sunday in NH.

All the more reason to see a lawyer and accountant. Maybe even have the lawyer sign the papers and pick up the check for you rather than get stuck in a press conference.

Are we allowed to mention that on FR?

I don’t think an illegal could own a bodega with all the regs in NJ.

Fred C Dobbs was an illegal immigrant in Mexico when he won the lottery (see Bogie in Treasure of the Sierra Madre)...but desperadoes got him in the end.

Pedro, you're a dunce. Anyone who wins that much money and then tells the world his name, his age and where he lives is just a marked man. He's going to be miserable.

If you ever win, change your phone number, get a PO box, get a lawyer and an accountant, set up a charitable foundation and never, ever, ever hold a press conference to announce you won.

Give him 1 million and seize the rest for redistribution. Oh, and then tax the 1 mill.

He’ll likely be dead in 12 months.
