NRA chief says Bloomberg can't 'buy America' amid $12M gun control ad blitz

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre on Sunday challenged New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to spend $12 million on ads meant to pressure senators into backing strict new gun control measures, saying Bloomberg "can't buy America."

Bloomberg confirmed Sunday that he plans to spend $12 million to run ads in at least 10 states, suggesting there could be a political price to pay for opposing the measures.

Making clear he intends to be a counterweight to the NRA, Bloomberg said he wants to make sure the powerful gun lobby is not "the only voice" in this debate. If he can achieve that, Bloomberg said, "then I think my money would be well spent."

LaPierre bristled at Bloomberg's comments.

"He can't spend enough of his $27 billion to try to impose his will on the American public," LaPierre said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." "He can't buy America."

Part of the purpose of the ad buy will be to rally support for comprehensive background checks.

LaPierre, though, said the existing system only serves as a "speed bump for the law-abiding" without catching the bad actors. LaPierre stressed that the NRA will continue to push for enhanced security in schools, better enforcement of existing federal gun laws, stricter penalties for straw purchases and illegal trafficking, and a system for making sure dealers can check gun purchases against a record of the mentally incompetent and dangerous.

"We're 5 million families. We're 80,000 law enforcement families. ... We want to make people safe. That's what the NRA does every day," LaPierre said.

The two ads posted on the group's website, called "Responsible" and "Family," show a gun owner holding a rifle while sitting on the back of a pickup truck.

A spokesman for the National Rifle Association blasted Bloomberg and the new ads, saying NRA members and supporters would be calling senators directly and urging them to vote against proposed gun control legislation.

"What Michael Bloomberg is trying to do is ... intimidate senators into not listening to constituents and instead pledge their allegiance to him and his money," said spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.

If Bloomberg had to take an oath of office that involved upholding the constitution and since his actions seem to indicate he is using everything at his disposal including his personal weatlth to actually undermine the constition, there should be a way of prosecuting him for breach of oath or even treason for that matter. Of course I have no confidence in the justice system to actually take it seriously.

Nanny Bloomers is trying to buy national exposure and increased recognition in preparation for a run at the presidency in 2016.

That’s what is at the core of all his whacko schemes lately.

He knows the more controversy surrounding his proposals and pronouncements the more press coverage he will get.

Hey Bloomberg. Spend all 12 million in Arkansas. You’ll get your monies worth there. I know, I know, Texas and Oklahoma wants some of the dough too. Ok, 4 million in each state.

[Bloomberg] intends to be a counterweight to the NRA . . . .

NYC police can tell the mayor exactly where the armed criminals are.

But he like all the gun-grabbing pukes does not have the courage to go after the real problem. Instead he "bravely" goes after law-abiding citizens all the while hiding behind heavily-armed police to "protect" him from Joe and Sally Citizen.

The criminals too are safe hiding behind the gun grabbers as the gun grabbers "bravely" try to disarm law-abiding citizens.

NOT ONLY should they attack the Bloombastard for his anti-Second Amendment Propaganda, they should SHOWCASE this pint-sized NAZIs’ views on “formula” milk, large sodas, and salty foods and his Hitlerian tactics to enforce his value system on the people of New York.

If THEY choose to listen to this megalomaniac, fine, its THEIR choice. But THEIR choice is NOT America’s choice.

And LaPierre failed to notify voters against HB197 (outlawing firearms possession for people accused of domestic violence), although he did give a heads-up on some other bills. Oops. We’ve seen some otherwise very prosperous professionals go down hard and robbed of all that they had for no more than false accusations with that kind of law (the VAWA—also supported by Republicans).

Bloomburg wants to be a dictator. From the puny position of mayor, he likes telling people what they can and can’t eat and drink, that they can’t have guns, etc. I would look for a steady stream of prohibitions from him over the next few years. Simply being a good administrator and managing the fire dept., police dept., streets and utilities is just way too boring and mundane for a megalomaniac who wants to be king.

I never realized just how much of a flaming leftist Bloomberg was until now. 12 million dollars to campaign for an unconstitutional policy to be imposed upon everyone else?

Why is it that most all the news titans are flaming leftist?
