It is a variant of a disease that can go from a fever and headache to a galloping rash and then to death within hours — so quickly that some victims have been found dead in bed before they could even get to a doctor. Over the last two years, it has appeared only among men, and they often got it, health officials say, through anonymous sexual encounters with other men found through Internet chat rooms or digital apps or at parties, making it all but impossible to trace the path of infection.
It is a unique strain of bacterial meningitis, so new it has not even been named, and it is particularly lethal — killing one out of three people instead of the one out of five who succumb to other strains of meningitis.
New York City health officials are growing increasingly worried that this strain of meningitis, which is an inflammation of the lining around the brain and the spinal cord, is so insidious that it could suddenly mushroom into a major outbreak, claiming many lives before anything can be done to stop it.
“It’s been sort of marching through the community in a way that makes us very scared,” Dr. Jay Varma, the deputy commissioner for disease control at the city’s health department, said on Thursday.
The department issued a warning this month recommending the standard meningitis vaccination for a particular subset of the population: “men, regardless of H.I.V. status, who regularly have intimate contact with other men through a Web site, digital application or at a bar or party.”

It circulated among drug users, especially crack-cocaine and marijuana users, because smoking disturbs the lining of the throat where the bacteria reside.”
Can anyone with a medical background comment about this possibly becomming “airborn” like a virus?

The questionnaire at our blood bank asks males if they have EVER had sex with another male. If checked, they can’t donate. Nothing to stop them from lying, I suppose. But the blood IS tested before and after gathered.

In fact, this is THE STATED GOAL of HIV-infected homos under antiviral therapy; to get their viral loads to undetectable levels.
And there is always the risk of error in failing to discard blood which tests positive for HIV.
Lying about homosexual behavior on these questionnaires, as well as actually donating infected blood, ought to be a capital felony.

Well, then I was wrong. I thought I read that prohibiting homosexuals from donating blood was discriminatory.
The consequences of anal sex and it’s bathhouse sexual drive will never going to stop. And it will spread beyond gays. Homosexuality is a public health disaster.
Liberals’ solution to the problem of aids was condoms and more destructive sex demanded of not only adults, but children, too. Condoms can’t protect gay men from most of the deadly consequences. They are doing their best to spread disease to the heterosexual populations with their slut/porn addiction push on Americans. The weakest and the most immoral - the edgiest - will not survive and thrive this social engineering effort.
The body piercing and tatoo fad is going to have consequences of communicable disease, too. We are going to have infections that we can not control and the more holes you have in your skin, the more vulnerable you will be.
America’s current limo-liberal fads are the most destructive we have come up with yet. If you are living “white bread” and are hated by liberals for exercising judgement, love and self control in life, thank your lucky stars.
On second thought, you will probably be taking care of all the edgy ones as they suffer and die. Christian preachers will be busy trying to restore those edgy ones who made it out alive.
