Senators voted Wednesday to keep the White House closed to public tours, turning back a GOP-led effort to free up money to open the building back up after the sequesters.

The vote was just one of a series of high-profile votes the Senate was taking Wednesday afternoon as it plowed toward passage of a bill to fund the government through the rest of this fiscal year

They defeated Mr. Coburn’s amendment on a 54-45 vote, with nearly every Republican voting to reopen the White House and with almost all Democrats voting to back Mr. Obama’s decision.

Good. I don’t know why Republicans are for this. It is crazy to want to continue to spend money we don’t have. Republicans think we have this endless supply of money. It is seriously becoming clear that Republicans and Democrats do not take the budget seriously. If you can’t forgo visiting the White House for six months then we have much bigger problems. The Republicans are wasting their time on this and not taking the time dumping Obamacare. I am sure I will be scolded about how important it is to spend more money by some FREEPERS by keeping the tours going....we certainly have some liberal FREEPERS who love to spend the tax payer money.

Donald Trump offered 5 million dollars to pay for the tours. The white house turned him down.

It does succeed in taking the edge off the Democrats attempt to blame the Republicans for the Sequester cuts. Not sure for how long it will continue to help.

It is my belief this “President” is distancing himself from the little people. His track record is one of arrogant aristocracy. He believes himself so above everyone else. I believe the closed White House is fulfillment of a goal. One more step in his personal trek towards isolation from the little people.

Sequester is just a great excuse.

Donald Trump has no right to do something like that. It is probably illegal. The federal rules are ridiculous but nobody current wrote them. These were written years and years ago.

This is such crap. There's MORE money for the tours than there EVER has been. Obama signed the sequester. Obama closed the tours out of spite as a political stunt. The democrats keeps the tours closed as a political stunt. The blame is ALL Obama's and the democrats. Republicans are idiots for even TRYING to get them started back up. All they should be doing is saying "OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS DON'T WANT YOU IN THE PEOPLE'S HOUSE."

Idiots!

this might also put a crimp in the obamas love of inviting ghetto trash ass grinding lip syncing entertainers like B-Yonce over for special tours and parties

The Republicans are for this, because the White House BELONGS TO US, the citizens of the United States. There have been several sources come foward and offer to fund the expense of the tours, so the Democrats are CHOOSING to make this a vivid political issue. It has nothing to do with “liberal FREEPERS who love to spend the tax payer money.”

The White House BELONGS to the PEOPLE! The Federal Government funds the study of why lesbians are fat and why they drink too much. Just one example of many enormous wastes of taxpayer money. I toured the White House with the Safety Patrol trip to D.C. back in the 1960’s. Imagine the disappointment of the children who anticipated the visit and were turned away. Go after the other HUGE wasteful expenditures and give the People back their White House!

That house belongs to the people not the President or the Senate. There are many things that can be cut. If you don’t believe me re-listen to Obama’s state of the union where he spells out all the layers of government doing exactly the same thing. When kids and schools have an opportunity to learn about our government we should not stand in the way.

FRiend, you and the most GOP is missing the point. The kenyan kept the WH dog walker and calligraphers on staff but closed the peoples house. If you are rich there is still a seat at his table. If you are regular Joe wanting to visit the WH you get nothing. People need to know that.

The kenyan should be hammered for these brazen political stunts. Don’t let him get away with it.

“What Sequester? Feds To Continue Funding Study On “Duck Penis Length”… “

(CNSnews.com) – The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $384,949 grant to Yale University for a study on “Sexual Conflict, Social Behavior and the Evolution of Waterfowl Genitalia”, according to the recovery.gov website.

The grant description says,“The project examines how reproductive morphology covaries with season, age, and social environment in a diverse sample of duck species that differ in ecology, territoriality and breeding system.”

The grant was made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the stimulus package.

The project has been receiving money from the NSF since 2009 and is slated for funding through July of this year.”

The tour guides are all volunteers, the only expense to the gov’t is the security, which is there 24/7/365 anyway!

The tours for the schoolkids are usually planned several months to a year in advance. A six month delay means that this year’s class doesn’t get to go, as they will be in other classes and schools next year, despite raising the money for the trip.

Yet you say “tough noogies”. Life isn’t fair, so I suppose this is one way of teaching that, right?

Another citizen offered to pay the alleged expenses to keep the tours going, but the petulant one said “no”, and you appear to support that childish gesture.

There is NO legitimate reason to shut the doors of the White House to the people who pay for it. EVER.

It;s costs next to nothing and there is many ways for the people to see the inside of their house by moving some waste money , plus I wouldn;t be surprised to know there is construction going on and the obama’s are using this as an excuse

How dense and/or ill-informed are you? This is a political struggle. Obama does not want any spending cuts. He wants to increase spending. As a result, he wants to send a message that any cuts, including those imposed by sequestration, will cause great pain. And he will make sure that as much pain as possible will be inflicted on the American people.

The GOP bill was not a spending bill, but rather it gave the Executive Branch greater flexibility to deal with the sequester including identifying unused funds in various accounts. The sequester cuts still go forward.

Closing the WH tours and parts of Yellowstone Park, slowing down meat inspection, delaying the deployment of carriers, etc. are the tactics of this despicable Administration. The GOP is just making that obvious to low information voters, but they have clearly failed in your case.

Oh, puhleeeeeze!

Have you actually bought Obama's line that White House tours must go and there's absolutely, positively not another single place we can cut? C'mon, of course, we have to cut -- about a trillion and change a year.

But we do not have to cut White House tours. This one's a winner for the Republicans. Public perception matters.
